Would You Change??

I have a Nissan Skyline GTR VSpec2 R33 that I have had for over 10 years and spent a fortune on. It's over 860bhp at the hubs now and 700bhp at the wheels so is a complete beast . . . . But

I have 2 young boys and working away in the week I hardly drive it now - Being in the country we tend to take the Landrover out into the sticks for days out as a family or the ZT for days at the beach.

I could sell the skyline and buy a MG ZT V8 as it would give me the comfort of a family car and the performance and noise I love -

So Would you???

Would you sell the Skyline and buy a V8??

Judging by what you want, YES!

It sounds like you want a luxury sports saloon/tourer, not a hard riding low slung sports car like the Nissan.

If you really missed the performance, you could always get a 400bhp Dreadnought conversion done to a V8, or buy one with it already fitted, with only the rear wheels driven and that kind of torque/power, it makes the ZT a very exciting ride indeed, even the standard 260s are awesome, I would have one in a moment if it weren't for the fact I use my ZTT for business, so the only sensible engine is my tuned diesel lump.

Regards, Rob.

Honestly? No.

Depends how important performance is to you - a 260 is going to be quicker than the CDTi, but nothing compared to a 700 BHP Skyline...

Yes, you can get a Dreadnought conversion - but were still only talking just over half the power for a LOT of cash.

What about an e39 M5?

Can't help you on your decision I'm afraid. I'd be gutted to lose a car I'd invested so much time and money into, but needs must, etc ...

However, looking at the one you linked to (on eBay), it seems to be a 2007 registered car. More knowledgeable people than I will give you more reliable info, but I seem to remember that this date of registration with that engine puts it into the "silly" tax band ? Worth checking anyway.

Could you not keep the Skyline and buy the V8? :p

Most people who've had a car for 10 years (even without your level of investment) have done so for a reason and seriously regret it later when they have sold it. I know I did!

To be honest I'd keep the skyline, imagine you had a v8, would you swap that for the skyline? I think I would! Think carefully though, you might end up missing the skyline for years and never get another the same. Good luck!

if you read the add, the 4 door skyline (and no one is going to buy one of those) is a straight six non-turbo.

As many people do not know they actually made quite a range of skylines/engines.
(some even with a 'cut down' straight six to a 2.6 twin turbo of course)

i had an R32 was only a straight six N/A but had been heavily modded for drifting, and was too rough for my pregnant wife!, absolutely rock bottom suspension.

fantastic cars.

Personally i don't think the latest GTR is a patch on the older skylines R32/R33/R34 and certainly not an R34 GTR.

Tricky question i like the ZT V8 and want one.

i also want an R32 GTR.

think your R33 if it many BHP above stock you may miss the power.

but the ZT will be much more refined

Sounds wise the V8 will sound better, irrespective of what exhaust you have on the skyline.

Supercharged V8 would be good but hard to come by, and to me too much money to convert.

Well . . .

Thanks Guys for your comments and it's gone . . . do I miss it well I did but it's gone to a really good home to a guy thats already got 2 Skylines and heated garages so happy he is going to enjoy it for many more years

What made me decide was the fact that between Last years mot and this years mot it had only done 150miles!!!! mainly track time at Donington but 150miles!!! I brought it to use and the whole family/work thing has got in the way. . .

Well that and he crossed my palm with with crisp notes

So we have been shopping yesterday and today (and I have for the last 2 weeks ;))

And this is the replacement for lots of reasons (pictures taken off ebay for ref)
