Who has got a Diesel MG6 ? What do you think of it ?

My Rover 75 Diesel Tourer is getting on a bit an needs quite a few bits sorting out on it, we have been thinking we would be better off with something newer with a warranty. I am looking at the MG6 GT TSE, I have put the feelers out with the Sales Centre today about getting one on an extended test drive.

The biggest thing putting me off are the prices of the diesel compared to the petrol model, the list prices are just way to high for where the car should be priced, not helped by the petrol ones priced crazily low for preregistered ones.
Also with the rumoured facelift model launching, does anyone know if this is fact or when it will actually happen.

If anyone has the diesel what are you opinions on the drive and refinement ? Have you had any problems. I might not be doing that high a mileage should that be a concern, the diesel choice is mainly related to the fuel card I have access too, that said it will be used on long runs too.

I am between two dealers no more than 10 miles away so having a local garage is not a concern. Pinkstones at Stoke in particular seem to get good feedback, and I have seen quite a few cars round since they started selling them.

There's been a few diesels about new/pre-registered at decent prices (TSEs for ÂŁ15-16,000). I think most dealers will be keen to do a deal especially as sales are usually quiet in the November-February period. Go in and make it clear you know there is a facelift coming and they might give you a decent discount.

If you do less than 10K p.a. it might be worth looking into a lease: http://mg.co.uk/offers/business-and-personal-contract-hire/

I've put a small deposit on this Magnette Dti, lovely lovely car. As I said in another thread refinement is top notch apart from when cold when its a bit rattly (timing chain prob). Superb to drive. I'm sure you can get a good deal from the salesman, my salesman Simon is a top bloke, this will be the 2nd 6 I've had off him. I got this Dti for a good price from him!

They usually give good part exs for old MGR stuff too!

If you don't do too many miles, like you do less than 15 mins commute i wouldn't bother with a diesel due to the DPF as they need at least 15 mins and a constant speed to do a regen or they block up. There have been no reports of DPF issues in the 6 yet, there have been a few cases of failed cam sensors...but once MG change it, it sorts it so they obviously had a dodgy batch or something.

I had been looking at the used ones, and the Black GT TSE one appealed to me. http://birmingham.mg.co.uk/used/mg6-gt-tse-blue/
I would prefer a great deal on a preregistered one though, I am waiting for someone at the Sales Centre to come back to me.
I just need to make sure I can switch from a estate to a hatch practicality wise so a extended test drive is what I am after at the moment.

There is another batch of new preregistered Magnette models listed today and advertised on Facebook. The deals on the petrol are certainly priced to sell.

Very true and a genuine concern. Residuals will be badly affected also by the fact the MG6 Diesel 'S' is available to the taxi trade for bargain basement prices, I think about ÂŁ45/week.

If it was at that price to the general public it would sell no problem.

In fact I'e just found one for ÂŁ121/month

You can always contact them and ask. ;) The ÂŁ11,000 figure was a reply to one of the posts.

It says on the link provided by rammelboy that the cars they are offering are the 1.9 Turbo Diesel S. Very few taxis are petrols these days (usually all diesels or hybrids). With a facelift round the corner it'd be no surprise if MG are clearing out the stocks of the diesel 6.

I agree that the finance might not necessarily be a good deal, as finance is always a means of a dealer making more profit and will always be affected by calculated depreciation values. Interesting to compare the figures with other cars they offer, the Toledo which seems to be a bulk seller for them is ÂŁ9-per-week more than the 6 and the Kia Cee'd 1.6 hatch is ÂŁ16-per-week more.

When you can get a 'new' MG6 Diesel for little over ÂŁ10k they sound like a bargain, but lack of spares is going to let them down.

Dealers are desperate to get rid of the last few MG6s that they have, there could be bargains out there for anyone willing to take the risk.

Well so far my attempts to get anyone from the Sales Centre to come back to me have drawn a blank. Email sent with no reply to the business sales person, been on the live chat to check I had the correct email address etc from the online link from the website to be told yes that's the right person and the email address is correct but he is business sales and I will need to speak with him.

Have to say I am not impressed as I would of expected at least some sort of response as it was Monday PM when I first tried to make contact. I will try the phone tomorrow...

Got an extended test drive booked next week in a Diesel MG6 GT TSE. The disappointing news from my point of view is that I have been told there is only 1 Red and 1 White unregistered MG6 GT TSE Diesel available and that's it for the TSE models :( and no Diesel Magnettes. And no 90th LE ones left either.

I hate Red cars and White wouldn't of been my first choice. I am hoping they can turn me up another option from stock somewhere ...

They said they had all the diesel TSE models sold recently in fleet deals, there are plenty of S or SE ones though (Which I don't want). The Sales Manager also said the facelift wouldn't be coming till the second quarter of next year.

It is strange that they couldn't shift the diesels when they were twice as expensive as a pre-registered petrol with 0 miles. They then appear to have offloaded them all far more quietly than the petrol ones that went to Motorpoint. How Many Left? shows a spike in registrations this year but I haven't seen them advertised anywhere.

All very odd, especially if they haven't kept enough back to satisfy the (albeit small) demand from private buyers.

I wonder what they have done with those 5000 Diesel engines that Windy posted about?

I had pushed them on Friday to find me another new TSE diesel and they can't, its the Red or White one or a list of 5 used ones all with under 14k on the clock, but they cant do the lease deals on these, so they are a no go too.
To say I am underwhelmed is an understatement. I am still going to have the test drive and then look at a white one in the flesh to see if it appeals.

Based on the overall sales you do have to wonder how many diesel ones have actually been built, also if they have sold so many of the diesel stock recently to fleet deals we should see a big change in the monthly figures.
I remain astounded that you can tell them you want to buy a specific model and colour and they can't supply one or offer to order one, it's crazy...

It's funny how we all choose different colours. SWIMBO thinks the Orange is awful (I quite like it); I think the 6 looks awful in the Grey, and excellent in Red or Blue, but I wouldn't entertain White or Black on practicality grounds. I like the Silver best on balance.

I'd like to test drive a diesel and a petrol, but I think a used petrol TSE is the answer for me, given the vast difference in prices and the low mileage I do these days.

The car for the extended test drive has just been delivered a Grey 63 Plate MG6 GT TSE DTI, first impressions of it are very good, very nice to drive and the engine is nice and refined, it goes well too.
I will see how it goes over the next few days.

After using it a bit today I am overall impressed. Its comfortable, the engine pulls well and is not overly noisy, even when pushed. The handling is good even when hurried along, the steering feel is not great, the gearbox and gear change is good. I don't mind the external looks, its not stunning and neither is it offensive, its like many other cars, generic looking (Not a bad thing for the price), build quality is very good, panel fit and the feel of the doors etc. Not sure how it does on economy as I haven't driven it far enough yet.
The interior is where I find more things to be picky about, I don't find the seats as supportive as the ZTT ones, the leather and feel of them is good though, I hate the handbrake, the key is a bit naff and low rent, the dash is ok but nothing special. the materials used in places look cheap and tacky, Sat Nav is dated and limited but seems to work ok. But overall when compared to other cars I don't think its far off the mark. I still think my ZTT is overall a nicer place to be inside.
I need to try it out over a few miles and make sure I can live with a hatch over an estate, but it fits the bill and the costs add up so its looking favourable.
