getting rid? have you had enough of your clutch woes? :(

back to the OP - what sort of performance or mpg do you want?

If you want a lot of power I'd go sdi's primarily as it's cheaper than a remap, though you need both to maximise the performance to the limit, so usually it's best to do sdi as a first step really.

There shouldn't be a dramatic drop in economy, usually just comes down to how you drive it, but it's not everyones cup of tea.

I take it you haven't been a car with them in?
My advice would be to fit them, if you don't like them sell them for what you paid for.
I had sdis in my 25, the power is amazing compared to my 214. I do most of my driving is in town late at night and I averaged 46 mpg. Loved the damn thing.

They get put back to stock mostly when the car is sold, the owner reclaims the price for them.

i have often thought about slotting some SDIs into my 45 derv, but then i think to myself "james, you have got 2 kids and a missus, having a fast car is not really the best idea in the world really now is it?" so unfourtunatly, as much as i would love to, its not really pheasable, so i shall continue to read in awe at new people who decide to do this mod.

Depends how you drive and where you drive. Slow cars do not always make the safest.

For example, out in the sticks where I am you can find yourself stuck behind agricultural implements for many miles. You can either sit there at 20mph or overtake.

If you choose the former, you can potentially add 1hr to your journey - if the latter, would you rather take 3 seconds or 7 to get past?

Exactly.

That is the difference between tuned versus non-tuned.

Just coz it goes like stink, don't mean it has to...

Firstly as with any mod you need to be aware of any possible risks....although saying that my sdis have been in for a while and all ok as many other members would agree

Sdis are defo worth going for !! Will defo transform your car totally !!

Make sure the injectors are cleaned before putting them in and preferably from a lower mileage car ..

You'll get as much power as you would from a remap but for way cheaper ..

Mpg is not majorally different ...obv with the extra power you do tend to use it .. however Sdi to non Sdi driven in a similar manner there's not a major difference ..

It's not a majorly massive mod so u could always swap back if you didn't like them..

between you and me I don't think cleaning does all that much with regards to their function.

Nothing cleans injectors like, well....hot diesel......at 1400bar....

Though a recon set, if done properly would probably have brand new nozzles. Now that I can't argue with, but would most likely cost more than ÂŁ100.

well, sort of, an injector can get worn, what I mean is if this was the case cleaning would not really fix it, it'd need a new nozzle.

I'm just saying I wouldn't place too much empthasis on whether it's being cleaned or not, they do look the dogs ******** after being cleaned but it's just bling factor most of the time.

would also advise cleaning, i see were the others are coming from but you dont know what fuel have been ran through them, could be abit of carbon build up, anything really. Least if there cleaned you know what is going into the car, not a unknown. Just my view.
You should go for it, great mod. Just remember new seals.

Divorces cost more than a re-map!!! :p

Totally understand the priorities towards the family, i'm in exactly the same position myself.

Cash is tight, family comes first before modding the car.

If you do get in a position to get a re-map done, you'll end up wishing you had it done earlier.

Cheers
