Rover RD 60 Info

I have a really great polish friend whose english is excellent (so is her french and polish)

However she has managed to a reasonable translation of the Polish article on the RD 60. It doesn't actually tell us too much that we don't already know.

TRANSLATION
The hidden – until now - model of Rover 60 will be produced in Zeran as well as Longbridge (polish factory close to Warsaw), if the contract with Rover is eventually signed.

The Brits plan to transfer to Warsaw the complete manufacturing line of model 45, which will be produced only there. The next step is to introduce on the same line one of prepared Rover’s version. During the interview carried out by the newspaper, Rover didn’t exclude that it will be a kombi model. Rover 60 will be introduced to the production in main plants of concern in Longbridge next year.

The car will replace the elderly “45”. Similarly to the current model, the expected one has a front wheel drive. An engine is situated crosswise in the front. These are current, very modern and successful units of type K, however with slightly increased power. For the Rover 60, there have been prepared a new ‘floor board’, on which 4 and 5 doors versions will be created – kombi and minivan.

The newest Rover has maintained the style of conceptive TCV model, shown in 2001 in Geneva. Over, as well as other producers, has chosen for his future models angular body shapes. Peter Stevens, responsible for the cars concerned says the stylisation put a big stress on a functionality inside its vehicles.

There has been prepared 5-seats, 4-door body as well. The car in its style reminds a kombi-limousine. A massive back makes a trunk of a big capacity.

There exists the “60” ’s sport version, called MG. The lashing-down is more powerful and lower-situated, stronger springs and amortizations have been applied. The car has 17-inch wheels, and shield breakers multi-terminals on each of its axes.
hope this is of interest, and my regards to Magdelena who translated this for us

Thanks for the translation, although I guess things like "floor board" and "floor pan" are probably unique to our respective countries' language. I wonder if the article is doing some guesswork on the name though, just because the development handle is RD60, doesn't mean it's going to be called the Rover 60, although I could well be wrong!

AutoCar has pics of the new 45

The AutoCar issue dated 26th Feb has sneaky pics of the new 45. And rather nice it looks to.

Saloon and Hatch (which looks like a cross between a Focus and Megane) versions available as well as an Hot Hatch MG badged "X60"

It appears that these mockups were of early prototypes anyway and should not really be taken as the finished article. Just as the TCV isn't accurate to the finished design either.

Welcome to the site btw, McParland :)

Thanks McParlands for the scans.

Have read about them and wanted them to see very hard.

But it is a disappointment for me.
The hatch looks like a Avantime/Rolls-Royce cross-bred.

I trust MGR in coming with something more beautifull!

I am a wee bit disappointed. The hatch looks quite a large car and there are some fussy styling details such as lack of door handles on the rear passenger doors. The saloon looks bland and is not as coherent at the back as the current 45 saloon. Hopefully, these are mock ups and the eventual styling will be sharper and more poised.

I'd been trying to post a thread on this all morning, but thanks to a totally useless network at work, I was unable to. And now I find i've been beaten to it! Curses!

They are the same low-quality pictures we saw from the eastern european site a few days ago, but as they are now public domain, there is no harm in them being on this site.

The article states that the pictures reflect approximately 70% of the production models, so there are still further style amendments to be made - or have already been made.

At least we have something to aim towards, now all we need is a date!!

The "MGX60" looks pretty dreadful IMO at the moment, so I hope there's some more improvement there.

Tommer

Import the photographs into some kind of imaging software and make sure the picture fits the screen. The squint just a little and you'll get a whole new angle on the cars.

Personally, I think they look great:) Now, if they can shrink the RD60 hatch down for the 25 replacement and expand the saloon for a 75 facelift, then MGR have got it licked!

That's funny, I'm sure I've seen these somewhere before...

I'm still convinced that these are early computer renders, not the final designs. I think the saloon looks promising - in fact so does the hatch - but both need a bit more work. And I was rather hoping (as it had been reported by Autocar themselves I think) that the MG versions would have different sheet metal, not just different front and rear bumpers.

I think they've improved the front of the car in comparison to the TCV! The worst aspect of the TCV in my opinion was the front, but I liked the side aspect the most. The hatchback form looks good and is alot bigger than I would have imagined!

One little observation I have noticed is that the fuel filler cap appears to be on the passenger side. WHERE IT BELONGS! If I run out of fuel on the motorway, the last thing I want to be doing is standing in the middle of the road to put some more fuel in!

I wonder how much of the TCV's practicailities will make their way into the "60". A saloon is a naturally impractical derivative, so the "highly practical yet stylish" theme for the TCV will have an interesting job converting to saloon format.

On the fonrt-end, we can't actually see it. I'm not convinced that the blue X90 is the way it will look.
