Does anyone speak Dutch? Rover appears to have admitted that the car known as "RoadSmart" (real name would get censored) exists and I think they are saying that it will be a Ford Fusion type car. Check this site out if you speak Dutch and please tell us what it means:

My estimated translation...

In three days MG Rover will celebrate its third birthday. On Friday, 3 years will have passed since BMW and Rover seperated
and (according to many the doomed) mark MG Rover was set up.

Some even throught that the name "Rover" would be disposed of soon thereafter and all bets would be on MG, but this didn't happen and during a press release last week [I don't get this last bit]

In the coming years Rover will become more of a luxury brand and MG will be the sporting brand. [Goes on to say that the Rover 75 didn't sell that well in the Netherlands but it could, and that they hope to sell 2000 MGs in the Netherlands thie year.

The additional sales will be made by anew small five door hatchback which will have a 1.4l motor and will cost ~ 10,000 Euros.

It will be launched in October and be produced in India. [I think that's what it says]. There will be another new model at the end of 2003, the Rover 25 Streetwise, an up market version of the Rover 25. At that time the first MG XPower SV sports wagon will be launched. According to the marketing manager that car will cost up to 115,000 Euros.

[The marketing manager apparently wants one as soon as it comes out to play with around town]

Finally the eight cylinder version based on the MG ZT (the sporty Rover 75) is under way, [something about american stuff being in the car - 260 cu engine maybe] and it's expected to be under way at the beginning of 2004. with a larger engine in the summer.

And by that time MG Rover will probably still be a small but wide reaching marque which might hten look back on four great years.

last bit is:
during a press release last week MG-Rover chairman Bert Waterman, an absolute old-hand in the car industry, disclosed the state of affairs.

In the coming years Rover will become more of a luxury brand and MG will be the sporting brand.
Sales are "fairly" good, Waterman continues, only sales of the Rover 75 are not as good as expected, mainly because company car drivers are cutting down on their expenses. MG Rover are counting to sell 2000 cars this and 2500 next year, mainly because of a few (and lovely driving) and fast diesels.

The additional sales will be made by a new small five door hatchback which will have a 1.4l motor and will cost ~ 10,000 Euros.

of all places.

There will be another new model at the end of 2003, the Rover 25 Streetwise, an up market version of the Rover 25.
the Rover 25 , an exciting version based on the 25, which will also be higher on it's wheels.

At that time the first MG XPower SV sports wagon will be launched. According to the marketing manager that car will cost up to 115,000 Euros.
which will be a right hand drive. Not all dealers will get it, in the beginning sales will be concentrated at the headoffice.

[The marketing manager apparently wants one as soon as it comes out to play with around town]
I'm sure he does, but that's not what the text says.
Finally the eight cylinder version based on the MG ZT (the sporty Rover 75) is under way, [something about american stuff being in the car - 260 cu engine maybe] and it's expected to be under way at the beginning of 2004. with a larger engine in the summer.
This must be:
Finally the eight cylinder version based on the MG ZT (the sporty Rover 75) is under way, which will have technoligy from the American Ford Mustang. At the beginning of next year the 260 bhp version is expected, followed by a 385 bhp version in the summer.

And by that time MG Rover will probably still be a small but wide reaching marque which might hten look back on four great years.

They do mention a new car made in India, but is has nothing to do with a Ford Fusion type car. They did mention that the eight cilinder version of the ZT will have Ford technology.

//Edit - as I said before, there is a reason its censored - please don't circumvent the censor as it only means a moderator has to edit your post ;)

whats the Luxury model 25 buisness they mention ???
They don't mention a luxury model 25. CodySydney translated that part in : "an up market version", but the correct translation is: "an exciting version".

BTW CodySydney, how come your dutch is so good? A lot of dutch people have emigrated to Australia in the '50s and '60s. Is your family dutch?

When I said it will be like a Ford Fusion all I meant was it will be a car (the Fiesta) made higher off the ground. I hope its not like a Ford Fusion because I think they are really naff.

What I want is a MG ZR pumped up much higher off the ground than the fusion, with a squared off back so if possible the seating can be made more versatile. Then whack a big B*gg*er of spoiler on, and give the front a really aggressive look. I'm wanting skirting up the side and over the wheel arches and a step to get into the vehicle. Drop in a 4 wheel drive system and plaster engineered by MG Rover group down by the rear wheel arches (BMW can't stop that).

Cue adverts of MG's (in red, white and blue) flying over things in the Aussie outback. Sounds cool to me! Rover can have a sensible 2 wheel drive version, thats more restrained and call it the Streetwise (Unfortunatly I suppose thats what we will actually get).

Off Topic: Ford Fusion

Just why does the UK version of the Fusion look so naff? IMHO the Transit Connect looks better than the UK and European Fusion....

Click here to see the Brazilian version, which is by no stretch of the imagination a rear view mirror monster - but has distinctly more attitude than the massed ranks of Fusions sitting adjacent to the import compound at Dagenham. It also curiously is offered with a 1.0litre Supercharged engine.

Why should Rover have a 'Restrained, Sensible 2WD version'. If anything it is Rover which should have the POWER !

Anyway its going to be fairly quiet on the MG front over the next 6 months (for a change) but there is lots of exciting Rover developments in the pipeline :D

Well for the MG brand has embarked on building outrageously sporty cars, whilst Rover should IMHO be going down the luxury route build on a foundation of bulding strong cars like the 75. Rover is not allowed to have a 4x4, so it is already liited to 2wd. Therefore the MG version should be aggressive and sporty. Rovers hisorically (with the odd exception such as the SD1, which was meant to be a Triumph) have always been more luxurious and NOT overtly sporty. In fact I am one of the few who probably still believe that Rover should make nothing smaller than a 45.

The Rover version should be more restrained in appearance and luxuriously equiped on the inside. But I suspect that it is the MG version that won't be built and thats a shame

I don't believe the SD1 was ever meant to be a Triumph, it was styled from the outset by David Bache who was Rover's stylist. There were sporting Rovers before this - ever been in a 3500S?

Just curious, why has my post (and that of others) been edited? What's so special about the name of this 25 that we can't mention it? This is the name as used in the dutch article, but for some stupid reason a smilie appears and if I try and avoid this smilie, my post gets moderated. What's going on???

The SD1 was styled by David Bache and yes he was Rover's stylist. But the SD1 started life as a Triumph. It became a Rover because Triumph did a deal with BL so that it could build its own engine (the Triumph V8 I think) and in return Triumph agreed to give the SD1 over to Rover who badly needed a big new car. I read it in one of the classic car magasines. That is why the Rover styled changed so dramatically. Looking back I think it should have been a Triumph and Rover should have "evolved" from the 2000 or the P5 styled cars. Now Rover lacks a clear image in the publics mind. Yet the SD1 remains one of my all time favourite cars!

This is why I don't think a jacked up 25 should be a Rover.

I actually agree, the Rover badge should be reserved for medium/large cars, the R45 being the smallest. I would also like to see the 2.0V6 the smallest engine available in any Rover car.

As for MG, I would prefer that the brand was aimed more towards BMW 'M' and Merc 'AMG' buyers rather than boy racers.

However MG Rover need sales so I guess none of the above will happen within at least the next 10 years !

I was asked to 'censor' that word... that's all I can really say on the matter.
