Hello Fers and TFers.

Not ventured in here before, but i read this in the paper this morning and thought of you... ;)

http://www.newcarnet.co.uk/Auto_news.html?id=11436

"In search of a Dr Frankenstein car, Warranty Direct united those with the worst profiles across the categories that make up its Reliability Index (www.reliabilityindex.com).

It's a unique tool that measures car reliability by considering average cost of repair, frequency of failure, age and mileage.

The disastrous car cocktail draws its power from an MG TF engine, sits on the suspension of a BMW M3, and has the electric workings of the Renault Megane.

It also boasts the gearbox of a Land Rover Freelander and the braking ability of the Audi A8."

Thank you for that unique and insightful piece of journalism...
Careful the door doesn't hit you up the ass on your way back out.

The more I try to defend my TF the more I come to realise its a bit of a losing battle.

Thing is I enjoy it. Im an ex forces mechanic and its perfect for me.

Its a bit like the whole ying and yang theory, it goes like stink, handles well, is a convertible with good mpg there has to be a down side or the universe would pop with frustration (or they would be 4k more in Autotrader).

So Im fine with changing head gaskets, waterpumps and thermostats. Im fine with looking at the road then the coolant temperature then the oil temperature 8 times a minute.
Im even fine with that random dribble you get for no reason through the door seal when its raining, it only happens about once every 3 months oddly but it happens.

Im fine with it all, because its mine.

And because passing cars with the top down and 160bhp underfoot will NEVER get old.

It states, 'This Frankenstein's monster is the most unreliable car ever, made up of the systems that fail most on various cars. The disaster on wheels is powered by an MG TF engine...'. To be fair, the K series is in good company as the other car parts were from BMW, Audi and Land Rover.

It was the The Telegraph, not The Times as I first said.

now I'm no intenet wizzkid , but isnt online advertising directed by cookies stored on your computer ? ie my volkswagen driving next door neighbour can look at the same page and not see an ad for the mg6 as he has never visited the mg website ?

try it , visit the channel tunnel website and see how many ads for it pop up on your pc in the next couple of weeks , andy

That's right, it's what Google do so well.

I followed the link to Warranty Direct's Reliability Index, and was amazed to see how many Mercs there are in the bottom ten list. SL, CL and S-class share the worst four places with the Range Rover.

Equaly surprising, in the top ten, was the (Indian made) Suzuki Alto in second place, and the Fiesta in fourth.

Not so surprising, and nice to have a stereotype confirmed, is to find "the electrics of a Renault Megane" forming part of their Frankenstein like unreliable car.

How do you set it to not clear cookies? That could be a pain.

Channel Tunnel ~ no last time I crossed the Channel it was on a dirty great Hovercraft and the channel was like a mill pond. Unbelievably smooth both ways. Impressive and memorable... ;)

In the options on ccleaner it gives you the choice of things to delete and you can untick cookies. Be very careful changing to many settings though as you could be deleting things essential so tread with care.

Back on the thread.

Here's a thought. Clearly the car is built up from the worst every manufacturer has to offer. If the K series is the worst engine they could come up with and clearly used the MGTF as it's originator SAIC is STILL being associtated with what they consider a bad engine. If it had said Rover 25 then that would be in the past BUT using the MG makes it current and still applicable.

Stigma eh?

You're deluded if you think someone's sat down and thought "Oh yes there's a new MG range coming out shortly, let's cause some trouble and concentrate solely on an old (designed) MG model". Complete and utter nonsense.

The reason they've picked on the F/TF is simply because it has more engine related breakdowns than any other car they can find.
