The MG5 is probably one of the more anticipated compact cars in 2012, the small car has already been seen a number of times on the great pages of China Car Times but this is the first time we’ve seen it in a color that actually suits the cars styling. The MG5 was reportedly designed in the UK at SAIC’s Technical Center but the cars styling does look overly ‘Asian‘ from the rear, hints of Subaru Impreza and Mazda3 hatch are floating around in there, the front end of course is signature MG and shares its looks with the MG3 and larger 6.

Looks rather good to me...

Im pleased with the pictures of it tbh, it looks pretty bloody good imho, but we need it over here quickly, this is car that is needed now not in 12 or 18 months or however long it will take to release it here.

Lets hope MG are pulling out all the stops to get the derv 6 and other new engines over here, along with the 3 and 5 with other engines, the quicker they can do that the more dealers will be interested, the more people will be interested and the more cars they will shift imho.

If I were allowed to give the design a score out of ten I'd give the following:

Front end: 8/10
Mid section: 6/10
Rear: 3/10
Interior: 6/10

Front looks very good. Mid section is ok. The rear is pants as far as I can see in the one pic that shows it. Interior is ok but nothing original or hasn't been seen already. Overall I prefer what I've seen of the 6 and 3. But it's not bad, and that seems to be what sells these days, inoffensive and "not bad" designs.

Looks like a Civic and a Hyundai have had an illegitimate child that's took more of the Hyundai DNA. Better front end than the MG6 but looks wrong with those wheels on it, high suspension and 5-door shutline ruining the rear 1/4 area.

Must get bigger wheels and must get a 3-door model unless MG want to be the OAP brand of choice in future... over to you SAIC...
