Hi,

It sounds like something that an MG dealer will need to physically adjust on the car in the workshop.

If you are unable to select first gear the first time, you will need release the clutch pedal fully then press it down again, then it should work.

I have the same issue with the reverse gear but have got so used to it that I never got it looked at by the MG dealer.

Good luck!

Cheers..
Thanks Matt!!

Now i am Eventually getting Used to the Clutch as i have clocked almost 2800 Miles on odo.
It's really not that annoying as it was initially & Yes as You Suggested, Releasing & pressing the Clutch again is Useful :).

Given that we've got more of these vehicles on the road in the U.K now, I thought that it would be a good idea to start a thread with a list of the known issues that has been plaguing the MG ZS.

Feel free to add more and state if the problem has been rectified by MG or not.

1.5 litre DVVT engine stalling issues - Acknowledged by MG and rectified by the dealer.

Driver's one touch electric window going down instead of up - Acknowledged by MG, repairs carried out by the dealer.

Rust issues on white models. No resolution by MG.

1.0 litre TGI engine PPF issues. No resolution by MG.

Loud harmonic whining noises in gearbox when either reversing or moving off in 1st gear - Acknowledged by MG as a characteristic of the car.

Loud clonking noises when turning full lock in the steering.

Clutch in the manual model very jerky. Sometimes an attempt to resolve this is carried out by dealers.

Cheers..
i had my 68 plate ZS clutch and bearing fail
with 19,000 miles
Stoneacre Middlesbrough where a complete joke tbh
they told me nothing was covered on the warranty
as the clutch is 30,000 miles or 2 years it was just over 2 years

i then contacted MG
they couldn't have been more helpful
the car was repaired no charge
for all items

i believe that Stoneacre where out to cream as much money as they could out of me
the price for clutch repair and 2 bearings ÂŁ1400

if i had not contacted MG direct that's what i would've had to pay
MG have an agreed labour rate
and free parts
so Stoneacre in my opinion where out to rip me off
i was never given the option for my local garage to carry out the work using genuine MG parts
if i had it wouldve cost me ÂŁ650

i rest my case, contact MG Direct
let them help and deal with you

oh i was even told the parts could take up to 6 weeks by Stoneacre
MG said all parts are in stock and could be delivered the following day
hmmm

Did you ever find out why the clutch failed at such a low mileage?

I am hoping to part exchange my 18 reg Exclusive model when I pay off the car in May 2023 for a ZS EV.

Cheers..

Had my MG ZS 1.0 Auto since new 09/19. The head gasket went on it after 15 months so needed a new cylinder head, has anyone else experienced this or am i just unlucky?? Also been back 3 times in the last 3 months with the engine emissions warning light coming on. They've changed the spark plugs a couple of times and this time the fault indicates a faulty coil pack , anyone else had this issue?

Worst car ever owned!

I posted when problems first developed with my ZS Auto. I described as a 'misfire' and was told by the dealer's service dept that it was the particulate filter regeneration and nothing could be done. It had got worse and worse. It is a disaster! An RAC independent inspection funded by the finance company even said that the it could create a 'dangerous environment' for the vehicle and the driver. The dealership won't accept 'rejection' of the car saying it is a 'characteristic' (yes, that old chestnut) and have offered to buy it back at 30% reduction after 4 months and 2,900 miles, which is less than 'WeBuyAny Car' offered! So MG dealers don't seem to have a lot of faith in this model. Anyway, watch this space.......
I can't agree more. My ZS has exactly the same issues. Just like a misfire when driving. MPG in low 20's Now a couple of years old with 6K on the clock.

No end of problems.
Numerous rattling and buzzing noises. Poor mpg.
Loose and knocking steering column.
Uncomfortable seat.
Dealership’s can’t repair issues.
Mg very unhelpful.
Plus side I’ve been able to change them every year because of very high trade in prices.
Sounds stupid as I’ve had 3 MG ZS auto’s 12000 a year get another one etc.
Ordered another for delivery in March delivery was moved to June and now August.
Been thinking of cancelling the order as the problems are with all three vehicles are starting to really irritate me.

Tell the garage that if the clutch is not under warranty after only 16000 miles then it is not fit for purpose.
I have had my Lease car an MG ZS for 23 months and have done 22K miles - Last Friday i was 80 miles from home when the clutch went - in 30 years of driving (and Ive driven some bangers when a student etc) I've never had a clutch go. A very nice AA man towed me to the MG dealership close to home and got me a hire car for 72 hours - he told me it was the clutch master cylinder MG firstly tried to tell me it's not covered under warranty - i pointed out the warranty is 7 years the exception being clutch plates at 30k miles or 2 years neither of which apply - they have now ordered the parts but the hire car provided by AA is now run out and I still have no car and the Mg dealership won't pay for the hire car nor supply me with a courtesy car so I'm having to pay Lease finance and hire car. MG dealership are now saying the car also needs a new catalytic converter which is not covered under warranty - being excluded after 12 months I pointed out I brought it in several times (last time in February so 8 months ago) because the engine warning light kept coming on and each time I was told there was nothing wrong with the car - I also pointed out that a cat going after a short shelf life and low mileage would suggest a manufacturer fault - like the master cylinder on the clutch MG dealership told me to take it up with MG customer services - who in turn told me to take it up with dealer - I pointed out to MG that they have sold me goods not fit for purpose - such fundamental issues on a new car is manufacturing issues - they have now raised this with head office

I have just had my clutch go at 35,000 miles. 4,000 miles out of warranty (never had a clutch go in 15 years of driving, and as it was brand new I took care of it compared to my old 1 series with 180k on the clock) £800 to strip the clutch to see where the issue lies and even if it’s a manufacturer fault discovered they still won’t do anything, so stripping the clutch a pointless exercise . Head office confirmed that as it’s out of warranty they won’t do anything (manufacturer fault and warranty are 2 separate entities though). No help whatsoever. Anyone else had any joy getting an independent view on this and proving a manufacturing fault from the get go?

So since my last post on 17th October - MG dealership changed the master cylinder apparently due to a manufacturers fault there was a leak and they say it was dry of clutch fluid - however they did the service 8 months ago and did not notice this nor top up the fluid if there was a lack of such - i have spoken to a mechanic who said both should have been checked and resolved at service so i am pretty annoyed with dealership - fast forward had car back 4 days and clutch went again! - got AA to tow it back to dealership who now say the gearbox has gone - this is covered under warranty but despite that they have now had the car 12 days and not provided a courtesy car nor given me any updates on progress of repairs and i am paying a lease whilst having no vehicle clearly there is manufacturing issues on these cars in the gearbox clutch mechanisms but i am getting no joy from MG - i have 1 year left on a Lease for a car i cant drive i don't trust the dealership - they have now had my car in 5 times for engine warning light issues, which they cannot tell me what it means, clutch and gearbox issues and servicing which quite clearly was not worth paper it was written on - sick and tired of the whole thing

Further update - so MG Dealership have had my car for 13 days and heard nothing from them so decided to chase and miracle upon miracle the part they need happened to arrive today (what are the odds) they have diarised to fir tit on Friday so day 15 but dont know how big a job it will be or how long it will take

I have MG ZS AUTO 70 PLATE problem with unlocking car with handle button not working waiting for answer from MG vehicle will not start does not recognise key fob have to lock and unlock car then it works mg dealer waiting for answer from MG. Could not program updates not working on vehicle.

This is scary to read. Looks like lots of clutch problems. Ours died a few days ago. It's an automatic 2022 1.5 ZS. 7000 km! Unreal The dealer literally said the battery dies after a year. Who designs a car with batteries that die after a year. It has a stupid design that forces the daytime running lights to be on which contributes to the problem I'd guess. We called the old MG's track oilers lol.
Hello Toyota, What's you trade in for a low km MG ZS LOL!

MG ZS Auto 2022 since Sept 22 - 2022 car but 1982 fuel economy

Being new to the party, the more I read here the more I think I may have made a grave error in buying one of these. I've got the 1.0 litre auto as well, I also had an issue with the engine light to start with but its been ok since they plugged their box of tricks in. My main issue is the automatic gearbox. I’m an experienced automatic driver, but it doesn’t matter how gently I drive it, it always seems to be in one gear too low. Example (although it happens at various speeds) 60mph and its still sitting in 5th at 2300 rpm, if I put it into manual mode, I can change up to 6th at 1900 rpm, if I put it back into auto mode, it immediately changes back down. Its hammering the fuel economy, only getting about 31 mpg in auto mode. If I drive it in manual mode as much as possible, I can just squeeze 36/37 mpg out of it. Took it back to the dealer and they said they would check out the computer settings, but then helpfully added that it was the most common complaint with the autos, unsurprisingly, they couldn't find any issue. I’m still not convinced it can’t be adjusted which is a shame as I like everything else about it (so far).

I6000 Miles MGZS Service evey year brake problem was not listed on any report or MOT untill I told dealer that anti skid was turning off and on. All 4 disks and break pads require changing not covered by guarantee ( 2 years or 2000 miles) ÂŁ760 to repair going in to daler in 3 days.

2018 MGZS 16000 miles serviced by dealer every year. No problems reported on any service or MOT. I had the tyres change by another garage and was told the brake disks and pads were badly worn externally and internally. At next service told dealer staff that anti skid was going off and on while driving. Service report and MOT stated that disks and pads are worn and should be replaced before next MOT. Have booked the car in for all 4 to be replaced at a cost of ÂŁ760 to replace, not covered by guarantee (2 years or 2000 miles). Possible charge to be added for anti skid sensors and additional work. As a retired engineer should have known better China material and lack of quality in manufacturing are well known. Oil companies will not touch China materials without certification and often the materials are rejected as non conforming.

Hi, Has there been any explanantion fro the cause of the "Loud clonking noises when turning full lock in the steering"?
The Bosch steering column could be at fault and may need to be replaced under warranty with a slightly improved version.

Some ZS EV models from the 1st generation had this. I am not sure if the facelift models have the improved version of the steering column.

Some other ZS EV owners have reported that it is caused by a loose fixing under the windscreen.

Cheers..
