Flexi pipe Repairable?

When I put the de-cat on I noticed increased smell of exhaust fumes which I kind of expected, but it looks like this might be due to a leak circa the flexi pipe section.

OK, so I got to replace at some stage, probably sooner rather than later but are these repairable temporarily?

Also, could a leak here contribute to increased fuel consumption?

Mine slipped off the rubber hangar and damaged the flexi a few months back, worth checking yours is still attached correctly especially if you have been working in that area.

I bodged it with some exhaust gum but it only lasted a couple of days!

Ended up fitting a second hand one for about ÂŁ25 quid. Make sure you get the correct one (MGF 4 bolt, Trophy and TF 6 bolt)

Will have to check the hanger though I sure that was ok. Have looked at the secondhand on Ebay, certainly an option.
Yeah Gum is only good to really get you to the shops or scrappy to get a replacement part.
Not used this stuff for years, it never did much of a job back then and looks as if 'time' has not devleoped progress.
you can buy just that section cut out and replace either weldit on or use clamps

Thanks for this, indeed another option to consider.

On the last point about fuel consumption..... is it likely that fuel consumption could increase with a leak in this section?

Thanks for the info gents.I'm going to go for the clamp on flexi.I emailed one ebay supplier for a part number, who can't be bothered to reply.Does anybody have the contact details for a supplier.I've checked autobitz but they only do the full front pipe and delivery to Spain will be expensive,so the flexi only will be a better bet.BTW,The car is an old P reg

Yes mine sheared off at one end of the flexi (no sign of any rust) I was just hoping a forum member had already bought one of the ebay flexi replacements and had a part code. The postage to Spain will be quite high I would imagine so I don't want to make a mistake. With the world in recession you'd wonder why sellers ignore info requests from prospective clients:confused:
