Do I need to disconnect the battery to unclip and reclip the connectors under the seat if the airbag light is on?

Don't want the airbags going off, but just wondering if they are still powered could fiddling with the connectors set them off?

If in any doubt I suppose, I should just disconnect the battery. Great how to from Mr. Edd when i ddid the forum search ,but his was for removal of the seats altogether.

I dont see how plugging the connectors back in whilst the battery is connected can cause the airbags to go off. If this were the case, then all cars like this are unsafe.
I guess if it's THAT important, then they should have been put in a tamper proof box so that joe public cant touch it.

I disconnected the battery simple because I was completely removing the seats. But I have fiddled with the connectors in the past without doing that without any issues. And I must say I think these connectors now fitted securely seem to be more stable now.

I would have thought that if the ignition is turned off and the key removed it would be safe enough?

But then what do I know???

hi

no always disconnect the battery, never fiddle with any part of the airbag system while live.

the trigger voltage may be low, what if you have static on your hands (i have had a static shock from a car before...maybe nylon matts!)

not worth risking, the force from airbag inflation is high, hence why babies in rear facing seats cannot go in the front of a car.
imagine if you had your head near the seat side and it went off, could be the last job you did on your rover.

so always disconnect battery (takes only a minute).

i may take a few short cuts on somethings, but airbags are one thing i try and do properly, and i have replace airbag ecus etc

hi

no as far as i know the circuit can be live with key off.

even though others may have plugged in connectors when live, its not worth the risk
every maual you will read haynes/manufacturers workshop etc will alway say disconnect battery.
when you do plug in, in theory could be a power spike which again intheory could set the bag off.

it just is not worth the risk to me.

and disconnect the airbags, the airbag unit itself is a live explosive, which detonates with a small voltage
if you have ever built pc's and killed a chip with static you will know what it is

So that would mean adjusting the seat, and causing the wires to connect/disconnect could set the airbag off then?

The Golden Rule!!

What is the GOLDEN RULE when working with electrics of any kind??????

Switch OFF and Disconnect from Power Source.
So yes any kind of electrical work, follow the above rule and take no chances, yep it could also save you some money.
Is it just me with the common sense???

MY advice Disconnect the battery before carrying out any electrical work. Steve

Discretion is the better part of valour lads, I disconnected the battery, and the yellow clip gave a difeinite click when pushed in, so far aribag light gone out.

Theoretically both sides could have been right, as I never tried it with battery connected.

Hark at Kofi Anan!

The phantom airbag warning light comes from the circuit disconnecting, in much the same way as unplugging the cables is...

Static shouldn't be an issue as the connectors are well insulted by plastic.

I'd still unplug the battery, though.
