Are these exact replacement for the BM24, I thought they were, but reading around it appears the BM54 have different plugs on them?

i fitted a bm54 back which has the old round pins, later versions have flat blade connecters which require an expensive conversion lead!
So the BM54 is not the most recent unit? Please clarify.

My boot was flooded with 3 inches of water and I'm looking to repair/replace the units that don't work. I think the OS unit is the BM54 but I'm unsure.

Please look here for photos of my unit:

No, that's the wrong way around....

The BM54 is the dual tuner unit, the BM24 (which came as standard fit until the very, very last cars (mine was March 05 and was still a 24) is the single tuner.

You need the BM54 to give working TMC whilst listening to another station.

24s go on ebay for less than ÂŁ100, 54s are over ÂŁ200!

I will take a pic of mine tomorrow if yo wish ! BMW BM24 will give dual tuners, how do I know this ? Because there is one sat in the back of my car !
If you have a Rover/MG badged tuner then It will only be single tuner, if you buy the BMW version it has dual tuners!

Just spent 15 mins googling!

Ah, I take it back, I understood our 'BM24's were the same as BMW 'BM24' units, but it turns out the BMW24s are actually dual tuners as well, they just lack some the features of the BM54.

What a surprise, BMW sold MGR duff kit again :(

On the flip side I can get a cheaper BM24 now to get permanent TMC :D

I wont say I told you so, but I did

I would also get the MK4 DVD nav drive as its much better than the MK3 CD unit, 3D view etc etc, but then you will end up doing the whole thing like I did!
Everything BMW sold to MG was crippled in some way, even the engines were held back on power

Interesting debate.

I look forward to the photos :) I may then make my decision.

Upon looking at the quote again and at the info provided above it also may seem that the seller doesn't realise it may well be a BM23 (or whatever number it was) so the BM24 they're offering may not be a BM24!!!

My old unit:
Part no: XQC 100440
Type: 220C785/60T

Is this the single tuner unit?

Scarbs, bubble1230 is correct, BMW 24s are dual tuners, MGR 24s aren't. (As my post above says)

54s are useful however as they can fade the radio down instead of cutting to the sat nav directions (the one I know of) and if you want to put in the BlueTooth kit, that only works with BM54 units.

The BM54s and the adaptor harness from round to square pins are silly money though. I was going to go the 54 route when I upgraded all my stuff, but decided that the small amount of extra functionality over a 24 was not worth it.

I have fully wired Nokia handsfree anyway, so not interested in bluetooth phone, so the 24 suffuces at present.

Incidentally, the very last Hiline Rovers/MGs DID get a dual tuner version of the radio module, so at leat the TMS would work then.

The single tuner radio module is one of the reasons that the TMC was not fully enabled on the MGR cars.

As someone said, BMW did seem to palm MGR off with all the older kit, saving the good stuff for their own cars.

My 24 is only Single Tuner though and the upgrade won't be for some time, I've got the following to get sorted in the next few weeks.

New Xenon headlight unit (rarer than rocking horse poo it appears)
New Front tyre
New Front brakes
Strange not-good sort of noise from the front end when turning right

And that's assuming nothing up creeps out of the wood work.

I can see why Kully sold it now!

SCarbs, could be but its not the normal 'click, click' sound, anything we're digressing!

All MG BM24 units are single tuners, that's what confused me earlier, I thought a BM24 was a BM24, but it appears not. BMW BM24s are dual.

It's not as clear cut as that, early BM24 tuners were single tuners, later models had TMC support, in other words dual tuners.

When you buy a BM24 off ebay, you need to check it has TMC on it & is indeed dual tuner, a question to the seller is worthwhile.

The other alternative is to listen to Classic FM all the time, as my Dad does anyway it's not a problem for him to have his TMC working.

If it's Philips then it's probably a single tuner Rover unit, identifiable by a copper heat sink.

The BMW BM24 unts are made by Becker and are dual tuners, identifiable by a thick black heat sink. I also think that some cheaper Becker units labelled 'Professional' are single tuners too.

Normal Beckers are more expensive but provide the extra funcionality of the dual tuner and TMC. All have round pins. The BM54 has flat blade type connections and won't be compatible without a convertor.
