False, TG is not an objective car programme, as much as you would like it to be. So JC has an opinion on the cars, and he was very right when he wanted a guarantee from the MG-Rover management that they will still be making cars in 5 years. :_poke:

That ZT had only the good points JC mentioned, it IS smooth and and maybe it IS nice to drive but it is just not a quick car and it lookes like a 75.

But I love that car so don't say I'm negative :s2h:

I agree that it is not subjective, what p!sses me off is that Clarkson has said how much he likes the ZT260 in small time interviews, but makes fun of it on the show because he wants to get a few gags in it.

He's quick to slate B*W for being German, but is never actually pro-British.

But JC was completly obsessed with the Rover brands recent history! How can anyone in their right mind describe the ZT260 V8 as an old mans car? What was with the Pipe????? How on earth is the dash old fashioned. JC goes on and on about the Imprezza, but it looks like it was assembled by a blind, one legged, midget! It has the build quality of a tractor, yet JC loves it!?!?!?!?!?

I have no problem with the fact that he described it as slow, but he didn't mentioned that there is a faster one on the way. The 260 has always struck me as an autobahn cruiser anyway!!!!!

MGR should in future stick a ford badge on all their products.

I like Clarkson because he's fun. The idea with the pipe was a bit of fun and I laughed at it.

He also said on TG it was nice to drive, so he didnt totally slate it.

 

A tractor is nice to drive if you jave a numb Ar5e, and not bothered by the lack of speed, Clarkson, just loves to slate the MGR range of cars because he thinks it is funny, he has no consideration for the thousands of people that make the cars and the fact that he is slating them as well. All i can see is a small independant car company try to get themselves sorted out after years of MISMANAGEMENT, they are now doing this, why cant the media support them in there efforts and not constantly trying to bring tjem down, they will be the first to whine when MGR goes to the dogs, not that that will happen....

I beg to differ, the ZT is the quickest point to point car I've ever driven, the chassis is superb, the cornering is sublime, the brakes are fantastic...

I really do not think that the Stig was driving it right, I could have got my 160 round that quick....

 

Conspiracy theories about the their lap times are unfair I think.
I'll speak for myself but I think the Stig was driving it on the edge, the car was wobbly(if that's correct English :err: ) coming out of some corners.

I'm sure the ZT is a superb car by our standards but it just is nowhere near the other cars they've tested.

And about the Impreza, that's a pure racer, it's also an ugly car and JC does admit that(only he calls it aggresive). The ZT 260 is a bit racer and a bit stylish, and that just won't do it to him.

50-70: 5.5

And I've driven it, no way would I call the car slow.

Sure, compare it to a porsche, ferrari etc.. and it probably is comparitivly 'slow'.

 

Sorry i disagree with you all JC is a MOTORING JOURNALIST and as all journalist do there speak there mind.

What do you want him to do come on TV say that a car fantastic there is nothing wrong with it and everyone should go out and buy one.

And lets say he did and eveyone went out a bough one and found out the car was crap, there not going to buy another one are there ?

JC say what worng with the car (as does every other motoring journalist does) and it up to the car compnay to put whats worng with it right so there done get a bad review next time.

So im sorry everyone should grow up and start to expect that MGROVER do need to work on there cars to bring them up to there competitors standards.
Done get me worng i think MGROVER are fantastic and i do think there will get there act together but with the world we live in you have to stand up and take good slagging of every so often.

Im not just talking about MGROVER here, he has a go at everyone

For example look what he said about the vectra when that first come out he hated it and still does, in fact apart from the VX220 he hates all vauxhalls

If MGROVER dont like it there should do what Hyundai did and refused to let TG review any of there cars.

If he really wanted to hurt MGROVER he would say there great cars so people would go out a buy one find out all the problems themselves, then MGROVER would have a whole load of pi$$ed off customers damanding god know what from MGROVER which would end up MGROVER going out of business.

So if you read between the lines he's really say come on MGROVER i know you can do better get the problems sorted and you'll be fantastic

He was his usual self I'm afraid. Unfortunately the masses out there believe he knows what he's talking about.

The lap time that he very hurriedly threw onto the board was above the Volvo S60R, which I don't think is a slow car? Of course it was well down the list because all the supcars are up top. We didn't get a proper chance to see what other cars the time compared with.

ok agree about it not too slow, but for a car like that the 0-60 should be a bit more quicker than that. the 30-50 and 50-70 figures are impressive though.

forgot to add, even with those figures I wouldnt mind getting one purely for the noise, did you hear that V8 growl!

 

i agree with the point that top gear is purely entertainment and should be taken with a pinch of salt, therefore they should also realise the influence they have over the general motoring public. They should think before opening their mouths... the show has the ability to be accurate and fair, and funny and popular at the same time. (this of course takes more time money and effort)

anyone with the slightest bit of knowledge will be able to see through the "stagedness" of the show, and it actualy has far less credability (although far more popular and entertaining) than its old 8.30 bbc2 slot.

This gets the award for the most contradictions. If everyone can see through it then what is there to worry about? If its purely entertainment then why does it have to meet some standard (and who would judge that): probably of the Which variety? Please no.

Yet you claim it has influence over the 'general motoring public' which presumably excludes you as you can see through it but does it follow that the GMP can't?

If I was Ford, Porsche & Vauxhall I'd be pretty sore at the comments last night. Only Jag came out ahead, just as the LWB XJ got slatted.

I'm glad TG is so irreverant. It would be as dull as all the other motoring programs noone bothers to watch anymore.

 

well i love top gear and jc i think its funny

i work for a chrysler dealer and when he drove the crossfire some part i agreed with others i did'nt thats life imo

altough the more i drive it the better it gets

at the end of the day its his opinon whether you like it or not, yes he slags mg/rover off he slagged a few hondas off in the past thats my passion i dont care what he says i like the program and will keep watching it
