In this weeks Autoexpress it says that there is a rumour that MG Rover are working on a Coupe Cabriolet version of the new 45 similar to the 206 cc and may even be taking a 206 apart to figure it all out.
it says to keep your eyes pinned.

Wonder what a MG ZSCC would look like based on the Rover TCV?

Well the was something that said they were working on 5 body styles, reasonable to assume a coupe and cabby were among them. However, latest reports say that only 2 or 3 will be made initally following the China Brilliance 'problems'.

Somehow I doubt they would be doing a cabby version straight away, a coupe would be nice though.

I think there could be a bit of brand confusion even more than now when the new 45/ZS comes out especially with all the bodystyles.

If they are going to do a CC version will it only be made as a MG version or a Rover as well lest not forget Rover did do some nice sporty models ie the Tomcat!!

if the build quality is good then I want a coupe (I've seen on these pages that the build quality of the 75 is generally better than that of the 25)
Not only is the 75 better then the 25 and 45, it's better then many rivals can offer in terms of quality. In fact, for 15k, you can't get anything else anywhere near as good...

Try a 75 out... they are simply superbly screwed together...

you said it! I hope they're going to let Rover build some fast cars, just more refined looking than the MGs. I don't mean badge engineering, the models should be distinct from each other (more so perhaps than the current MG and Rover ranges). I couldn't imagine anything worse than making Rovers "slow" just to push the MG brand. They wouldn't do that, would they?:(

Make the Cabby a Rover and the Coupe should be an MG (I've seen some pics of the Tomcat and they did consider making this an MG only version of the 200)

The cabby can then be a bit refined rather than an out an out sportscar
Eddie,
The MG version was I believe the EXE-?something which was only used for the prototype show car I thought it was the 800 fastback though not he 200 coupe!

I'll second that - its a totally experience compared to the ZR. In fact I'm very tempted to look into one for myself, the ZT (-T?) 1.8T. I just need to justify it (mainly the cost) to myself. The only reason I can come up with that for "Mondeo money" its a lot of car. Not to mention the fact that I'm not keen on the direction the ZR is heading. I'm still not convinced of the ZS either.

i dunno a New Coupé will do Rover Image alot of good, i mean the 200 Coupé still look great today , the ycould stil lsell then (obviously with a few nips and tucks here and there) .

Then again where do Rover want to position themsleves back in the early 90's Rover were pretty sporty, with the 600 , Gti models , Turbos here and there etc ....

Now we have the 75 which is not sporty really

The 25 that is , the 45 that is and isnt .... I think the Rover brand needs some bloody good tv advertising , maybe at the Pictures (cinema's) i think that is rather effective , get the message across to the brainwashed BMW,AUDI etc generation that Rovers are cool aswell ......and still exsist!

I'd like them to stick to tradition. Coupe's and 4 seater cab's are Rovers. Roadsters and 2 seater convertables are MG's/
Oh you've done it now! That opens a whole new can of worms. Just because there hasn't been an MG coupé in the past, does that mean there should never be one? There was never a Rover coupé until Tomcat came along (unless you count the P5B four door one). It might be just as valid to say Rover should stick to tradition and only offer four door saloons and fastbacks.

Erm, what happened to the MGB GT then, isn't that a coupe?

MG BGT?;)

Personally I think something should be exclusively Rover to add a halo effect to the brand. My initial thought is a coupe.... but why not coupe and cabriolet (coupe a la Tomcat and perhaps convertible more than cabriolet) with a spiritual successor to the MGBGT and MG B as the MG variants? Perhaps this is what X70/1 is after all?
