These are old stock at least 18 months old, that MG obviously want to get rid off. Such a shame they have decided to off load them to Motorpoint at such low prices.

As said this will do nothing for our residules. I paid 12k for my 11 plate Magnette in Jan.
Does make you wonder if the positioning of the Magnette at £1000 above the GT was the correct one.

I am sure at these prices they will sell quickly and make a good buy for some one.

I still think MG should just outright drop th eprice of the -6

Just go hell for leather after dacia.

Till they get better engines they can't compete against the more mainstream market

They have nothing to loose, they are not selling now, the second hand prices are dropping like a stone. They are probably building them for peanuts and can afford to take a big hit over the launch price without the Chinese overlords batting an eyelid. Cheap and cheerful has worked for the Koreans and is working for Dacia, so they might as well go down the same route.
They have not sold that many new so they are not going to alienate that many buyers who will be left with cars with horrendous residuals, besides they can always offer cracking trade in deals on another new MG for people who get stung.
I am almost tempted on a MG6 but I really need an estate car for the dog.

It's actually extremely embarrasing for MG Motor to offload these cars in this way and it will skew the September sales figures if they have all been put on '63 plates.

On the other hand, if somebody is looking for a car that they plan to keep for at least five years then these are unbelievable value at £11k. In effect, MG Motor are even undercutting themselves with the vehicles they are offering at the Sales Centre.

I got a good deal on my MG6 brand new to me nearly 2 years ago.

The current glasses guide price adjusted for mileage on mine on a dealers forecourt is not far off what these Motorpoint cars are up for sale, why buy used when you can get a pre-reg car?

I will be interested to see what I get offered for my MG6 against a new Mercedes CLA 1.8

At the end of the day, I think these are cars that have been hanging around Longbridge for a long time. The S and SE spec Magnettes were dropped a long time ago and I imagine the TSEs will be pre-chrome trim models from last year or even longer ago. They are probably desperate to get rid of them and this is very much a last resort move.

Bargains though.

Those pre-regs look like the old 184g/km emissions, rather than the newer 174g/km versions, which means they are from the first year of production and have been sitting for a long time at this point?

So would that explain the price? You are, after all, going to be paying (marginally) more for fuel and tax than some of the used cars they've got on offer.

Edit: Incidentally, is there a way to search by location or an easy way to see the location? If there was one near me I might be very tempted to go for a look.

Just looked at them. The Union blue TSE magnette at the bottom of the page is apparently on it's way to Glasgow.

They are definitely the higher emission cars as they list £220 road tax as well as 184g/km. This means that they will have been manufactured at about the same time as my TSE GT which I paid less for last November.
I am quite happy with mine and intend to keep it for the next few years and am not worried what they now cost.

I wonder how they work the VED out. I'm sure I read somewhere on here that it applied to cars registered after a certain date (regardless of build date) so Motorpoint might be wrong.

Anyway, you're not going to care about an extra £20 per year when you are saving £6,000 on the price you'd get a 'new' one for even including the VAT offer.

Low VED cars seem to be very thin on the ground. They didn't start until April 2012 so all the Avis cars appear to be high VED.

I have always maintained that all MG6s were at least £3000 overpriced. I never understood why the Magnette costs more than a base VW Jetta. A few people defended the crazy prices on the basis of the equipment levels but that clearly didn't convince enough people to switch from other brands.

It looks like this has been addressed with the MG3. Now they need to get the MG6 in line and reduce all the new prices by between £3000 and £5000. A '6 Magnette diesel is not worth £22K.

Clearly the Magnette has not sold as well as the GT, but by doing this action, they have really given supporters of the company in the early days a kick in the teeth.

A £10K MG3 looks expensive now so rather than swopping the Peugeot now for one, I will wait and watch if the prices reduce.

I love my MG6 but I would have loved it a lot more if I had only paid £11K for it!

Its a lot of car for the money, a bargain in fact when you compare it to what else you can get. Why they have not just realigned the pricing to try and get the numbers up instead of all these deals they keep cutting to offload the cars as it is ultimately killing the market for any new ones. Its basically a good car that is far better than some of the crap that sells in large numbers, but the lack of sales can only be down to the failings of MGUK.

You do wonder what the hell is going on at MGUK ... Based on your experience buying yours from new I wouldn't buy an MG3 until you see how sales stack up for the first few months. You would hope they have learnt from the mistakes, but I do seriously wonder.

The Magnette costs £19,955 as a petrol and at £21,195 for a diesel. There is the VAT offer but MG make no reference to what you will pay due to that on their website (an own goal if you ask me). BMW 3-Series starts at £23,185 for the 316i.

I think the myth/image of a BMW is more important to the average buyer than having a lot of toys, sadly. Otherwise you'd see more high spec Mondeos than base spec 3-Series.

On the subject of BMW's, there will probably be decent discounts going.

I looked at a Z4 M Sport nearly 3 months ago. Recently facelifted and list was around £32.5k at the spec level I was looking at. I was offered £5k off without even asking, I am sure I would have got more off by haggling if that was their voluntary starting point.

I didn't buy in the end as after a test drive, the car didn't appeal to me.

Personally I think MG just want rid if them. Having loads of cars stockpiled and not selling doesn't make them money.

Sell quickly at a bargain price to shift stock and get some money back in the bank. Main dealers won't want them if they can't shift stock that they already have.

Wonder if it was another batch intended for Avis?

This is a chat I have just had with motorpoint....

Please wait... 1:27:11 PM
You are now connected to Ollie Case 1:27:22 PM
Ollie Case: Hi Andy how can I help you today? 1:27:31 PM
Andy: I see you got a lot of MG6 cars ALL with 1000 miles exactly, can you confirm if thats right, and are they the saloon or the hatch ? 1:27:49 PM
Ollie Case: Just give me 2 minutes andy and I will find out for you 1:28:28 PM
Andy: thanks 1:28:32 PM
Ollie Case: have you got a reference number please? 1:33:28 PM
as I cant seem to find them 1:33:34 PM
I have found them they are the saloon model 1:34:10 PM
Andy: Reference ID:519111 1:34:20 PM
Ollie Case: the cars have been bought in bulk so we have valued them all at 1,000 miles however the mileage will be less 1:34:42 PM
Andy: where are they located and can you advise the build date of the model please ? 1:34:42 PM
Ollie Case: They are still with MG Motors at the moment, im not sure on the build date 1:35:29 PM
I believe they were all registered on the 1st of this month 1:35:42 PM
Andy: ok, so if i want to view one I would have to go to Longbridge ? 1:36:09 PM
Ollie Case: they should be arriving at our sites within the next 7-10 working days 1:36:43 PM
Andy: ok, I am in cambridge, can you advise if Peterborough will be getting some soon, need to change like now... 1:37:29 PM
Ollie Case: have you got a contact telephone number I could call you on as it would be easier over the phone if thats ok? 1:38:04 PM
Andy: nah, this is fine thanks, 1:38:26 PM
not able to talk freely at this time 1:38:39 PM
Ollie Case: Ok Andy, not a problem, we have one silver one on the way to peterborough 1:39:24 PM
however with how we sell our cars there is a good chance this car will sell before it arrives at site 1:39:49 PM
Andy: ok, thats fine, I never buy before looking and trying, I will have to try in a week to see if Peterborough have any, at that time i suppose i will have to poodle over and look, 1:40:51 PM
Ollie Case: ok andy not a problem 1:41:30 PM
Andy: after all I would not be happy if i purchased the car before it arrived and it was damaged or something else was wrong 1:41:37 PM
Ollie Case: we dont expect you to buy a car without seeing it 1:41:57 PM
so all we would do is take a small deposit and if your not happy with the condition you would get the full deposit back 1:42:26 PM
Andy: ok, you said above that you expect the cars to sell before it arrives, thus making a purchase difficult, never mind I will try again in a week and see what is left if any... thank you for your time... :) 1:43:06 PM
Oh yes, can i access peterborough's inventory online rather than the whole companies 1:43:32 PM
Ollie Case: our website lists all our cars but if you click on the cars individually it will list the cars location 1:44:05 PM
Andy: great, thanks..... have a good day 1:44:24 PM
bye

So Motorpoint have not even got the cars, and they dont know what is going where, I loved the comment about it being sold before getting to site, then stating they dont expect us to buy a car until we have tested it....

I am seriously considering getting one, I have an MG6 test arranged for week after next, and if it is still as good as I remember and the car is good at that price I would be totally stupid not to get one.

Have people really paid out in full for such an unknown quantity? There is no picture, no mileage details (all are 1000 miles) and I wouldn't even be sure these are low VED cars (even though it says so in the advert) because very few Magnette S and SE models were produced after April 2012 before they were discontinued.

So who has actually bought one (not just reserved one with a small deposit or expressed an interest), when they haven't even arrived at the Motorpoint sites and given that the salesman in the conversation above clearly knows very little about them?

I predict that when the cars arrive at Motorpoint in 7-10 days and some pictures are posted, there will still be some left for sale.
