Doing a 280 mile journey to London tomorrow, and the same back Monday night and I have every faith in my ZR.

Last month I did a 120 odd mile each way to Newcastle and back with a full car and it didn't skip a beat, and was still great on fuel consumption despite the weight in the car, so should be even better tomorrow with just me.

280 miles each way right.
Well would you question making a 28 mile journey 20 times ?
That distance I'm sure motorways will be involved so travailing in a good steady constant Rev range, if car is in a maintained condition with no known problems shouldn't be an issue.

I'm doing a couple of hundred miles (Sheffield to Norfolk, then back) in a week or so, on an engine that when warm, runs on 3 cylinders

Gearstick flies around like mad when it's missing too... just damned irritating. It's getting no more sympathy from me though, sod it.

I did 2,500 around Europe in my mates old 1.4 MG ZR back in April. The car shell had seen better days but it was very reliable! Didn't miss a beat once, except it did die when the battery cable jumped off (mate hadn't tightened it properly) and the EML came on at 7,500ft, once we got lower it went off and never came back on. I'd gladly hop into my silver 1.4 Rover 25 and take that if I could afford to right now, but instead I'm going to save up and take my MG6 a bit later this year. ;)

Here's a picture of it up the Alps between Italy and Switzerland (Swiss side), this was around 7,000ft up!

will it or will it not

If its a K series engine no the head gasket will go if its a diesel its only just run in and will be fine :) Man Up just thank god its not an 800 otherwise the camshaft would seize at the first traffic lights

The ZR we did 2,500 in was a K-series. ;) I used to have a 1.6 K-series Rover 25 which had 156,000 on the clock when I bought it and I covered 24,000 miles in 10 months, had 180,000 when I sold it, it went on for a further 1,000 miles before being scrapped due to a rusty shell. God I miss that engine, pulled so well and was one of the quietest K-series I've ever heard.
