As everyone who knows me is sick of hearing my Zed goes to AAa a week on monday (provided i can get the last engine mounts)

doing this to a top standard (bar some thing's i wanted to do like a branch mani etc) has stripped my savings and also stalled the TF project

it'll take me a month to get back on my feet where i wont be spending much of anything on the car

after that i need to decide what to do

im a lucky 'student' i earn a decent wage for being a student nurse and doing what i love and more importantly i don't get into debt... and i get a good wage from working in an orange shop

because im a bit odd i spend 800 quid a month either saving for parts so i can buy someone REALLY expensive or buying car parts lol

so

when im back on my feet in 6 weeks.... do i keep spending on the ZR or start building my monster TF? the ZR is much much cheaper to buy parts for and my daily drive so i can enjoy things straight away but i miss my TF and feel like i mights well not own it as all i've done is pull parts off it for 4 months now :(

what would you do?

oh and i've put the same question up on ZR forums to see what they all think :D

ah now here is the kicker

the is no way i can finish the TF till next year :(

so this summer... my 240 bhp ZR will be allot more fun than my engine-less TF :(

what it comes down to is, do i keep improving the car im driving or build a car to drive next summer (no guarantee it's finished by then)

After the months end, knowing you, cars, parts etc,........why not buy cheap parts with your ÂŁ800 savings for various cars, sell them on at a profit,....and use the profit to buy parts needed for yourself, 2nd month ÂŁ800 + another ÂŁ800, buy more parts, sell on.......profit for your car...........and on and on...lol

hmm whats the guarantee i can make a profit... plus i dont think i have time to run a 'business' :(

uni is heavy atm and im doing 15-25 hours a week part time, i have 1 day off a week to do everything else lol

good thinking though!

Is it possible to have the TF drivable whilst still upgrading parts ?
That's what I have been doing with Madam, I know there is going to be a time when some part fittings will take her off the road but, I still get to use her 99% of the time ..

Nothing beats a soft top in the summer ...

Oooops missed the no engine bit d'oh ..

Carry on with the z and start on the TF in October ..
hmm Zed till october wouldnt be a bad idea... would let me fit a few more 'big' things that could make a serious impact on how good the car is (like coilovers and a full re-spray)

indeed, the TF requires massive work for the V-TEC engine, least of which is new subframes and such building up and a roll cage buying and fitting etc... i know it will be worth it in the end but walking past the TF is killing me and i know as soon as the runs start in earnest i will miss the F/TF community so much

Ditch the Z. Piece of cake who needs 5 seats anyway.
mine has 4 lmao i fit streetwise seats

I need the ZR no matter what... my TF wont be a usable car day to day

the seat conversion needs finishing, rest of the interior taking out, roll cage fitting, door press cross sections and door locks and electric windows removing (not sure on how im going to get the plexi windows to go up and down but i'll jump off that bridge when i come to it)

Instrument pack and fire extinguishers mounting as well as seats and harnesses and i need a intercom system fitting

thats the interior

fuel tank out and binned, new one mounted in the bonnet area... CF bonnet on and air ducted... allot rad fit in the front... CF wings and wing mirrors and boot looked at

front subframe needs re-building with new suspension thats not made of rust, the same with the rear... uprated ARBs needed... the polybushes i have need fitting

the rear subframe needs mounts sited

the fuel tank bay needs cutting into to fit the itbs and a custom wireing loom and fuel line system pluming

the fire suppression system needs plumbing in

last but not least i need to talk to quicksilver for a custom exhaust system and shod the wheels i have in Toyo R888s

i THINK thats it :hgf:

kind of pointless haveing 2 F/TFs, would rather have a car easier to live with as my second one (plus why would i walk past my 330bhp TF and jump in a slow one lol better to drive my ZR i can get in and out of easily and drive 240+ bhp :D lol evan if it has a tin roof

i defiantly want both cars no matter what

it's just where and when do i spend money

#15 ·
Lol so ZR then :p

every time i think about it i think thats the best way... i'll be driving a reliable car then, as in i KNOW the engine will last forever and keep me entertained till i do the TF lol its just about other things

tbh i could finish the ZR by october if i leave things i dont care about like ICE so JATs advice is good :D

I'd ditch the 2nd job, run a sensible car that requires no work (play or needed) do whatever it took to get top grades in your course and bugger about with cars once you're finished getting your qualification.

Given that you wont take that advice, i'd keep both cars in the spec they are just now and concentrate more time on your studies and look to jack in the 2nd job.

At University, on the basis of the (well deserved) stipend and propensity for them to always be munching cakes from the expensive fancy cafe we used to have a joke -
What do you call an 18 year old girl with a fat 4rs3 and a brand new Ford Fiesta?
A student nurse.

Those were the days.
state the cars are in now:

TF has a blown engine and no interior

ZR has bodywork that makes it illegal to drive till i finish that, and it has massive HGF so requires a new engine lol if i leave it as it is now i'll have to keep using the bus and will have wasted all my money on wanting to put the T series engine in

as for quitting the second job and concentrating only on my studies and give up the cars...

i wrote a long reply to that, but i'm not posting it cause if your not a nurse you can't understand what we do

but in general i'll say this... give up your entire social life... give up all your hobbies and all your friends... spend all your time working

i'd give anyone 3 months before they burn out and hate their life and quit their job

i wouldn't last 2 months

same shell, totally different car... ill take you out in the Zed at the next meet mate ;)

when me and martin used to go for blasts he could corner as tight as i could in the TF the only difference is the TF can put power down where as the ZR can't

as for 'fixing' the TF... not a bad idea, i could fix the K series engine and run that with all the roll cage/suspension/breaks/etc for a while... the big expenses are in the V-TEC stuff

hmm something to ponder... :D

#18 ·
if i had the money mate i'd of bought the TFR! lol and stripped the conversion parts and sold it on as a standard 75th

my TF is worth whatever i could weigh it in for... too heavily modified to sell normally

sods law if i knew it hadn't sold i'd have had it 3 months ago when i had money :D lol

I'm well aware of how grueling medical work is.
Surely giving up some of the car effort and the 2nd job would give you more breathing space. If you'd hate your life so much then maybe nursing isn't a good choice to start with. Most medical staff I know hate the hours but not the work. And unless you are a consultant you don't have much say in that ratio.

However, I use this messageboard to discuss cars. I hope you find a balance that you can manage without neglecting that which you hold important.

i love nursing, i just couldn't make it my whole life, if i had nothing else going on and no social life (and thats basically what loosing the cars would mean) then i would have no way to de stress and just not be able to do it

i seem to be doing well enough, i had 2 part time jobs last year and the cars and my GPA was 92%! lol i bet that would plummet if i had no way to turn it all off

and unlike medicine nursing isn't all about the grades... its about careing for people, I can't do that if im so wound up and stressed i don't know what to do with myself... you get so close to people doing the job, and allot of those people are seriously unwell, some aren't going to live much longer and you can't make your whole world about that, you need something to escape to... the medics live in a different world where the patient is a chemical balance sheet or an object something needs cutting out of... i've never seen a doctor get emotionally close to a patient and get to know their families and become part of their life... when you quite literally 'care' for somebody like that you need a release outside of your professional life or the sadness of illness and death would eat you up

being a good doctor is about study, being a good nurse is about being good with people... and thats how it should be, i'm very good with people... thats why i love meets and runs, thats why i love both my nursing and my part time job because i get to talk to complete strangers and help them

my friend jenny is about to qualify as an F1 and she thinks im completely barmy for striking up a conversation with a complete stranger in the pub or evan on the street... she is however going to be a fantastic doctor because she's happiest when buried in a book soaking up the information

just the nature of the different professions

Alternatively, become a pureblood pike and have the TF blocking other peoples driveways on axel stands for up to 25 years.

:dddc:

:D
nahh a ***** would have weighed it in for scrap by now

update on this thread..... i decided to give the bloke who looks after my savings a ring today, i've been putting what i can away every month since i was 16 and it has my savings off family in there

sufficer to say i was very surprised at what was in the account! (its one of thoes stock trader things)

so i've cashed in 3k in stocks today :D thats the ZR finished and i can start on the TF over the summer!!!!!! awesome

when in doubt

DO BOTH! :D

#25 ·
ill be keeping both, the ZR is my polished show car with a bodykit and engine bay bling and a lush interior... my TF a stripped out road legal race car that should from the outside be a total sleeper ready to make boxter owners weep :D so will have both and no doubt in 2 or 3 years something more practical (like a 'new MG' derv

Good for you, it's nice to see someone else with foresight !!

My Father made me start saving/investing many many years ago, mainly in Blue chip although I do dabble in high risk every now and then ..
Result was I was able to retire at 48, debt free, when I was sick of doing jobs I hated, rather than the job I loved ..

Great news, now have a beer and celebrate :broon:
fantastic! :D i didn't realise how much i had saved... 70% is low risk and 30% split between med and high risk and it's paid off allot more than i thought, i figured with rates being as poor as they are now that i wouldn't have much in there... there is still enough left to grow as well which is nice :D guess my parents were right after all! lol

odd you should mention it, i basically gave up drinking to afford the cars in the new year... a beer would probably deck me now!
