I was looking through the internet today at a few rovers for inspiration. And some of the cars i come across were very
Different to say the least. So i thought illd start a thread about it. See who comes up with the worst.
Add as many pics as you want.
Whilst not to my tastes, I prefer 'low' profile driving rather than "Look at me officer, I'm well fast", I have admiration for the amount of clever work which went into that car's preparation.
The buliding 'towers' in the top right of that picture also interest me. Looks like they maybe AirShaft Towers sometimes placed over vents in long Railway Tunnels. Anyone know what those buildings are ? ~ looks like a Victorian Industrial Site.... always find old industrial sites interesting.
Back in the 1990s, along with my then very young son and a few friends, we had a conducted tour of ... wait for it ... Scunthorpe Steel Works.... I went along just for the ride .... not knowing what to expect. Glad I did. What a place, they have over one hundred miles of railway tracks on that site and we had an industrial steam shunter locomotive take us around the site ~ it was pulling two ex-BR passenger carriages. I took numerous pictures and towards the end of the tour, our guide instructed us that photography was not allowed...by that time I had exposed two 36 frame films. I guess environment issues play a part here as well as restricted commercial information.
As sometimes happens with anything 'spur of the moment' unplanned, it was one of the most unexpectedly enjoyable and informative days ~ if this industrial site has not been wound down to a shadow of its former self like so many other segments of British Industry ... and they still conduct official tour visits, well worth going for anyone with an interest in our diminishing industrail heritage, I can recommend such a tour.
The scale of that operation is quite simply ... astonishing. Ten years before... about 1982 when the still 'new' Austin and newly arrived MG Metros were much more highly regarded, I had a conducted tour of Longbridge ... anothe day well spent for anyone with an interest in Automotive and British Industry. Again, the scale of the site and operation was a real eye opener ... all mostly now gone.
Yes, not for the first time, MGJohn's gorn orf at a steep tangerine again... ... serves the OP right for posting such an interesting picture ....
