Hi guys, I'm pretty new here, I think this'l be my fourth or fifth post?

Anyhoo, just got me a 3-door ZR, and lifted the sub, amp, and wires from my dead Polo, and am wondering has anyone fitted a sub to their ZR? I'm just curious as to the best and easiest way to wire it? If a guide like this already exists, Apologies!

Thanks in advance,
Anto

EDIT:

Ah, mi scusi, just stumbled on the How To section, probably something in there....

Although, what I really want to find out is how others have wired it, as in, what did you use as earth points, where is the best place to run the power cable through the firewall, where to hide the cables?

Thanks again!!!

Not too bad to do really.

RCA leads and speaker wires from the head unit down the drivers side, and power lead from the battery and blue remote wire from the head unit down the passenger side of the car. It makes more sense this way round as the battery is then the right side for the power cable.

For the power lead i think i found a large rubber gromit in the bulkhead which i put the cable through, i cant be sure on that 100% as its raining and it's late so i cant really go and check!

I just cabled tied everything neatly under the dash and then ran everything under the trim down both sides of the car, together with more cable ties in the boot for tidyness.

It is good practice to keep the power and signal cables as far apart as you can, hence why they should be run down seperate sides of the car, as putting them together can cause interference and/or feedback.

For the earth lead, i removed one of the brackets that secures the middle of the rear seats to the floor, rubbed a part of the floor down around one of the bolt holes down to metal for a good earth, put the ring end of the cable down first, then the bracket, then put the bolts back in.

SimonMc220 - On the back of the head unit mate in the wires, you will have 2 powers. One is permanent and the other is switch. I just put my remote wire in with the switch wire. The switch wire will only come live when the key is turned. Im sure there is another way, or there is an actual remote wire. But when i put my system in about 5 years ago now, this is what i did.

If you have a multimeter this will help you

Do put the rca's on the opposite side to the power tho, when i did my first install, i didnt and o was i annoyed.

lol, then you have to get tucking those wires away. Its actually not that bad to do. I managed to get them down the sides of my back seats and out of view, and sneak them through. No evidence of wiring now =]

What sound system you stuck in? (i know this is the wrong section) lol

I have the twin 12" 2000watt FLI system. With 210w FLI door speakers to match.

I'm thinking about putting some more speakers in the back for the sake of it....but 6x9's in the shelf don't really do anything if you have decent door speakers.

Thinking of sticking them in the back quarter bit, bit more unusual :).

I do need a new head unit tho, my old fashioned sony xplod (which im using cos the other got nicked) really annoys me with only being able to get 18 songs on a disc! (4x50w tho!)
