Hi,
Will 13" wheels fit over standard solid 262mm brakes?
I've got the offset sorted, don't worry, just need to know if the diameter is right before I commit to a very silly purchase

Oh the woes of silly silly people on this forum. If its not hairpins, straights or mk2 zs straights then its wrong. is that oem? is that practical? Does your mother approve of this? Ooh lowering springs, have you told insurance?

I'll get some pictures of the underside of my car when I get the chance. There's dents in the chassis rails from speedbumps, the exhaust centre section has been smashed flat, the chassis is scraped from front to back, the floorpan is scratched, the subframe is scratched, the rear lower suspension arm mounts have been smashed flat. If anyone wants a v6 45 splitter, there's one somewhere along the m27 just a few miles south of hedge end... I'm going to have to pack planks of wood to get into the park for POL - the organiser has informed me of speedbumps at the entrance. Every post I seem to put up gets raided by the fun police.

:dunno:

Form>function. It's fun. YOLO?

Dearest rover-25x, yes it's indeed for the 45. Looking at alternatives to the 15" wire wheels I was looking at, as they're ÂŁ660... also looking at some bullet steel wheels or some 8/9j staggered banded steels

Bit steep like, but on the 13's front, Vauxhall Astra Mk3/4 rims fit ROVER so that means Corsa B rims will and they come in 13", might be worth a scrappy visit. ;)

Do we have an answer?

Do 13" wheels fit then?
You go Fathead - each to their own. My reasons are different, I have a small pile of competition tyres on 13" wheels and wish to find out if I'm going to have to sell them all. Ground clearance won't be an issue in my case.

Dunno, nobody's replied with a concrete answer yet. Which has sort of defeated the point of the thread...

You said you wanted to fit 13" wheels primarily to lower the car even more after raising the lowest lying components. (I have no issues with what you want to do).

However the way I see it, if you fit 13" rims, you are going to need big fat tyres in order to make the overall diameter the same and not effect the speedo readings. Therefore the overall diameter of the wheel will surely be no different? And the car will be just as high off the ground, and just as likely to rub on the arches, just on an extra 4 inches of rubber!?

Or are you quite happy about your speedo being very inaccurate? I guess fitting smaller wheels will make it under-read, so not too dangerous. Although I have no idea if its illegal to have an inaccurate speedo?

You don't even need to have a speedo to be legal.

I don't think anyone on here will have the definative answer to the opening post as to whether they'll fit.

Best bet is to try one in a scrapyard.

I know 240mm discs will fit under 13 inch wheels as that is what one of my car came with originally. No idea on the 262's on the rover setup though. (282's need 15 inch minimum though - and only a few of those fit).

Maths alert!
If 240mm discs (and associated caliper) fit under 325mm wheels then there is a 85mm clearance for the caliper. Therefore if the caliper is the same then 262mm disc with a 85mm clearance will clear a 347mm wheel, which is just shy of 14".

The crucial question here then is 'does the caliper NEED all of that 85mm clearance or can it manage with 13mm less?'

I suppose the best chance of a fit is with a 13" steelie. The one I have here actually has an i.d of 285mm (11.25") where I expect the caliper to fall.

Can anyone measure from the outside of a 262mm disc to the outside of it's caliper? this would give us a dimension for the necessary clearance we need in any given wheel.

This leads to another thought. Can you actually grind the outside of a brake caliper to make it fit?

He is entitled to a slightly strange looking car, if it makes him happy and keeps him occupied that is what a hobby is for :)

Have you got a project thread that will allow me to keep up to date on pictures? I am fascinated to see what it is gong to look like once you have finished playing with it :D

If you don't want our advice/opinion... why the hell did you even ask?

Urgh, this happens on every single thread I look at. All the wannabe heroes trying to save the day whenever anything vaguely original or in the slightest bit questionable is suggested or shown. I remember all the hate the dude running his ZR on cut springs got. And that recent thread about the VVC metro on standard brakes...

I asked whether 13" wheels will fit over the calipers. I didn't ask for a lecture on the safety of my car nor did I force you to take any interest in what I'm doing. Nor did I ask your opinion of my car, you obviously fail to see the point of it.
