I have a rover 216si and i was wondering if anyone knows why there isn't a 1.6 engined mg zr?or is there one that i'm not aware of? Also i keep seeing people refering to the engines as spi's and mpi's etc. what does this mean and what do i have? (mk3 216)
Thanks

Spi=Single point injection
Mpi=Multi point injection.

As for the 1.6...I would think it's because there's no point. After all theres only 15hp or so between the 1.4 and 1.8.
Spot on. with the 1.6 giving out 115PS in the TF, I can't see a slot for it in the ZR line up, only if they changed the 120 to a 135, could I then see the room, but I still don't see the point. Its too close in power to the 1.4 for it to be worth while.

fair enough.i find my 1.6 very nice and highly driveable i'm suprised they did the 1.4 instead of a 1.6. So, what are the differences between the rover 1.6 engine and the zr120 (apart from the extra 200 c.c) Does it have a better cam/head or what?
Is my 1.6k a multi point injection or a single point injection and what are the differences in reliability and performance?
sorry if these are remedial questiond but i'm still learning. its a bit different from my mini!!!

Why dont they...

Change the 1.8 120 to the 1.8 VVC from the Vi so its 140bhp and then slot in the 1.6 with some added tuning to take it to 120bhp... then you would have a 105, 120, 140 and 160
Because there's no point, plus building more models costs a lot more money.

And why would they want to chuck away all the development work they did with the vvc and go back to using an old spec engine.

Anyway back to one of my original questions!, what is the difference with the internals of my 1.6 k series lump and that of the zr, other than cubic capacity? And is my k series an mpi or an spi?
Cheers

The 25/ZR runs a later version of the Mems ECU which has an extra lamda sensor in the exhaust.

Obviously the ZR160 has the VVC head / cams / ECU etc, so is a quite different beast from yours.

The 1.8's also run a different gearbox to the 1.4 / 1.6's.

Yes its true, alrthough its only a replica, so it doesnt count, although its the gona be dam close to real thing one day...

I go for a 1.8 anyway after driving mine for 11 months it feels slow :(
May only be a replica, but just look at what MGR enter into the Super 1600 Rally championship.

A 1600 ZR - or it would be, apart from the entry forms all say a 1.6 Rover 25... So, you're in the same distinguished company as Gwyndaf Evans and co. running about in a 1600 MG ZR Replica!!!!!
