Hi all, as i am quite new to this f,ing, i wondered what atracts folk to them... I love the style, and the fact we can feel the wind rush past at a quite reasonable price, and MOSTLY to me, MADE IN BRITAIN well mine is... its a 52 plate tf trophy in silver,. cheers steve

The colour :D

Seriously!

Tina and I were in the market for a roadster last year - we had never considered an MG and hadn't even heard of TF's before searching for "convertibles" on trade websites. We didn't do any research, just saw it and both fell for it straight away and put the deposit down after the first viewing, without even a test drive :)

Everything else has just been a magnificent bonus.

When I was buying my MGF I'd had a Mazda MX-3 for around a year and was wanting to upgrade to a mk1 MX-5, a car I'd wanted for ages. Long story short, I drove one and loved it but for the money it didn't offer half as much as an 'F VVC... plus the F is mid-engined which is always awesome! :D

So that's my story in a nutshell. The F is a keeper though, for sure.

I could have bought any car at the time. I had 12 grand in my hand waiting for a car to swap it with (yes that's how much a 2nd hand X reg F was worth back in the day!). The ONLY car I had any "feelings" for in that price range was the F. I saw a purply/flip one (might have been Morello but I am sure it was a flipper, so not sure what colour it was) and from that day I was hooked. I then set about hunting down a nearly new silver one and got one shipped up from the Midlands to the local stealer....had a topless test drive and bought it that day.

There might be a "british" side to it as my Dad has only ever owned british made cars (until he bought a fiesta last year aged 64 )...but it must have been subconscious if it was

Ok guys grab the hanky's (not the tissue's for those with smutty minds) I chose mine for looks, handling & performances secondly. But mostly i chose it because of the FRL (ta lee) my bessie mate nick (maybe you weren't so mad all these years) and a small inheritance from my dad who owned a 160 trophy TF (should have had an F dad)

I'm not lying when I said 'it chose me'... because it's true.

I had some money aside a year ago, but job situation didn't quite work out well... so I had in mind to get something decent. A nice 'sports convertible'.

I had thought about the BMW, the 80's or early 90's model. The square one with quad front lights. I still think that's the best 3 series BMW ever made.

But I also thought I could save up for a mk1 Lotus Elise. I did want a Rover K one as I'm not a fan of the Toyota engine.

So... one of the shareholders at work and my boss's boss had this MGF sitting there at the car park at work. Brought from England and hardly been used. Sitting there for 2 years in the sun made more damage to it cosmetically than mechanically.

So... one day I felt like I was at the dog rescue place as when I drove into work it looked at me. That sad looking MGF with plenty of life in it. So I went and asked the owner what was the score.

Deal was I took it off his hands, sorted out the paperwork and if I ever got fed up of it, to consider him as a possible buyer if I ever needed/wanted to sell.

A lot of headaches, paperwork and money later to change plates and all the damn red tape... I drove Gordon to the UK where he was greeted by most of you who attended the FRL run.

That's my story in a nutshell. MGF rescuer.

I had wanted an MGB as a kid, loved the idea of a small two seater roadster.

By the time I could afford such a car (late 90s), it was the F or the MX-5, so I test drove them both a few times.

MX-5 did nothing for me and I actually prefered how my 200,000+ miler 2.0i Sierra drove.

F seemed straight away to me to be a real driver's car you could look forward to driving everytime you sat in it. So I paid 13,000 odd for an 18 month old VVC, which I drove to work 100 miles round-trip every day for 4 1/2 years and I loved every single mile.

That included snow and ice and all sorts of adverse conditions, and it always handled so well, almost like it was part of me.

Sold it in 06 due to job change circumstances, and it was much missed, but last year I realised I could just buy another one for peanuts (considering what you get for the money - and indeed what else could you get for that sort of money?) and the car had lost none of its allure. Still love driving it.

I've always really liked the style and fancied a fun car. I'm of a certain age and I did think about spending a lot more money on an obvious mid life crisis alternative but ever since people started to refer to my friend Adam's 911 as his men-o-porsche I decided against.

Anyway it was only 15% of the cost of the alternative but is definitely just as much fun.
