Where was the MG RV8 built? or were parts of it made at multiple locations?

This has often intrigued me, does anybody know the price of it when it was on sale?

what is it?
Any one got a pic?
Go to www.mgrv8.com for some more info. It is a pretty comprehensive site. I seem to recall that they were about 26000 pounds when released in 1993. Most of the 2000 odd that were made were sold to customers in Japan. Good examples are still worth AU$45000 to 50000 in Australia. Not bad for a 10+ year old car.

There's a couple on Ebay going for six or seven grand. It was basically an MGB with the Rover V8 engine from the Range Rover in 3.9 form, with an updated bodyshell I think supplied by British Heritage, and some other updated components. The headlights were off a Porsche i think? And the rear axle off the Sierra?

The body is a modified MGB shell, with different scuttle/screen frame, wings and bonnet. The shell was built at British Motor Heritage in Witney, Oxfordshire and was, I believe, completed at Cowley. It had the Rover V8 engine in 3.9l displacement, 5 speed Rover box, modified front suspension (no kingpins), power steering and a modified MGB/Sherpa back axle and upgraded suspension and brakes.

The car was hand built, luxuriously trimmed and could even be specified with aircon. Most went to japan but they are coming back at a hell of a rate.

Current prices range form ÂŁ8,000 to ÂŁ15,000 depending upon condition and spec.

Thank you for that informative description Richard! I am trying to get onto www.austin-rover.co.uk, however the pages beyond the main menu don't seem to load and as a result I cannot get to both the RV8 or production figures page. Does anybody know how many were built?

I am asking this as part of my MG Rover A-level project - an example of deindustrialisation. I am including a production figures page at the back as a reference to many of my comments in the booklet I have produced.

They built about 2000. The gearbox was an LT77 but then got the much better R380 version.

Parts bin spotting: Interior door handles from the Jaguar XJ-S. And aren't those Metro mirrors? Headlamps were Porsche 911 (are the same ones now fitted to LTI TX1 taxis?) but the taillamps were tooled up especially at great expense.

Yes those door mirrors are from the Rover metro.

I think that B rear lamps will fit the R and vice versa.

The MGOC do R style interiors for the B and C and you can fit the low maintenance R front crossmember, suspension and power steering (about ÂŁ1400!). The single leaf parabolic rear suspension gives a smoother ride, too.
