me and emps share the same ethos on this, I wont go into detail as it may offend some people but I'll tell you this much (as a general rule)

if its:
*blatently not meant to be there
*purchased from Ripspeed or Motorworld
*a real 'head turner!'

you need a slap

Biggest hates have got to be stick-on fuel filler caps - mostly seen on Vauxhall Corsas, and sunstrips with 'MOTORSPORT' emblazoned on them, despite the fact that a crummy Corsa etc is never going to be involved in any kind of legal motorsport.

I don't think it's fair to say any mods should be classed as a no no. I think what matters is which mods are combined with other mods on a given car and how well they work together. I don't think it's right to say that a part bought from Ripspeed or similar is enough to make it chav.

If mods are chosen carefully they enhance a car. The very much abused word "chavtastic" is used way to much IMO.

I have a problem with these exhaust tail add ons. Horrendous pieces of kit! I also can't stand DTM exhausts or any orthes which stick out from the bumper too much. They look cheap and have a tendancy to but black on the rear bumper. Finally, those massive chrome wiper blades made me giggle ever so slightly!

The worst mod??? how about when someone takes a Rover 25 and turns it into a zr?!?!?! Now Im not saying a ZR looks crap, but there is no individuality or creativity involved at all!!! From one 10 a penny car to another, whats the point??

That surely has to be the worst mod!!!
Maybe turning a 200 into a ZR can top that!

Mods which have no useful purpose.

If it doesn't make the car lighter/faster/safer/comfier and probably a few more I've forgotten then it doesn't go on my car.

Sorry, but I'm gonna disagree with that silly notion.
A car to me is an extention of my personality, I.E individual. I do not like driving standard everyday cars. A few cosmetic mods tastefully done can transform an otherwise ordinary car into a good looking motor. As long as it's not over done with silly jap kits as said and chavved up with tacky bits and bobs.

I don't class alloys, lowering, spoilers, painting crappy black/chrome bits and changing boring lights to something a little more interesting as pointless.

You may like to fade into the background, but I get much enjoyment from modding cars. I've spent crap loads of money on my car, both inside and out, some cosmetic and some engine mods and I don't class any of them as pointless.

The "I made a 25 into a ZR" mod/s.
Over tinted clusters.
"Angel Eyes"
Chav shopping lists
16V/TypeR/Turbo badges everywhere
Fugly "Jap" bodykits. Might look good on a Supra but looks poxie on a Hyundai Accent Coupe, geddit?
Hacked springs.
Those "brake disc" wanna be brake drum covers.

am guessing you didnt like the modded zr on on the reved up on discovery channel
I saw the 1st part of that, had to go out so missed the final product!

But for me, 'worst mods' i can think of are the rear 'disks', angel eyes on hatchbacks (should be kept to BMW really...), the 16v badges etc, LED washer jets, 14" alloys on a car that came with 14" steels (Like a festa in the works carpark...which also comes with LED washer jets :( )

Really though, as said before, what the important thing is, even if noone else likes it, you love it! I prefure a style dependant on the car. For instance, a Saxa looks best with washer jets, 14's and 16v Badges, but then, i cant stand saxo's
Golfs i like minimalistic, euro, very low,
Rovers i like subtle but noticable,
Jap Coupe's i like with bodykits, big wheels etc

The worst mod has gotta be those awful universal metal spoiler things that some people bolt on the back of their cars, just to make it look like a pram.

Theres a rover 400 saloon i pass on the way to work sometimes that has one bolted on the boot, in addition to a selection of other motorworld or halfords finest universal mods. Why bother lol!

Subtle, tasteful mods are best, like de-oranging a 200 and a little colour co-ordinating - but not painting every last bit of plastic on the car.

Like the thread title says, though, "what modifications do you hate?", not what mods are bad. I don't naively expect everyone to agree with me. If they did then the world would be a boring place.

Its not as if I drive standard cars either!

Its just when I see a car with more bits of plastic grafted onto it than michael jackesons face, I do feel the need to point and laugh at them as they pass by. Some cosmetic mods do look ok but most of the cars I see round here lust look plain horrid.

on a personal front cannot stand lexus lights and pretty much any "universal" mod available from halfords. personally i think if a mod is carried out to a high standard and generally dont look like they've been stuck on using blu tac then the effort used to install them should be appreciated even if not to personal taste

I really dislike poorly meshed grilles and vents using cheap nasty expanded mesh instead of the quality woven stainless sort. It looks awful and goes out of shape very easily.

Another pet-hate are brightly painted brake drums sat especially when behind unneccesarily big wheels. They're nothing to be proud of boys!

I'm all for modifying cars and have modified every one that I have ever had in some shape or form but I really don't like it when they are modified purely for the sake of modifying, without actually improving the car is any way. Still, it gives us other road users with taste something to laugh at.

Maybe, but the point is...why spend money on making one car look like another car when with that same money you could go down a different avenue and make it look different to any other?
I see ZR's all over the place and if you mod a 25 to look like a ZR I'm gonna think it's a ZR and wouldn't give it a second look and I'm not gonna appreciate the work that has gone into it because as far as I know it was already built like that. However if the car was tastefully modified and looked different I would give it a second look.

It's like saying we should all wear the same clothes instead of being individual and getting noticed for what we wear. That's how I see it anyway.

This thread will cause argument, eventually :D

Mods are to what the owners like so tbh, if the owner likes it, who cares.. what anyone else thinks :D It's their car, no-one else should be able to tell them what to do! :)

Edit: My keyboard some reason sets capitals to a ascii code (means the letter number isnt in the swear filter) thats why when i type it, swear filter doesn't work and i stared out...

Ever seen a Citroen estate car with just bog standard hubs and half sized plastic spinners which didnt actually spin but more flap in the wind??

i bought a 200/zr replica fail to see what everyone problem is with it just find one that has been done by some one else then pay peanuts for it.
am guessing you didnt like the modded zr on on the reved up on discovery channel
No problem if you BOUGHT a 200/ZR replica, cos you didnt spend the money and made yourself a huge saving on a nice looking car! But to be the person to have spent the money in the first place..........(hmm I wonder if the person you got the car off now has a real ZR??)

Maybe, but the point is...why spend money on making one car look like another car when with that same money you could go down a different avenue and make it look different to any other?
