As a follow on from my previous thread, Went to buy an MG6 today...

Today I bought an MG3, not our first. We now have two.

If your other MG3 is the pre-facelift can you comment how the two compare please? I bought a 15 plate which my parents now own, and I've only briefly sat in a the facelift model in a showroom in Thailand while waiting for my GS to be serviced. Overall I thought it was nice, the only negative I can remember was the door cards had gone from have some material on them pre-facelift to an all plastic moulding which I thought was a bit mean. But does it drive any better or worse than the pre-facelift? Any noticeable sound deadening improvements?

Our existing MG3 is a 2016 stop/start model. We have done about 15k miles in it from new. The new MG3 does feel like a step up, the ride is much improved most notable on poor surfaces and speed humps. It appears the new car has either more torque or possibly better chosen gear ratios. So far I am very impressed with it.

 

Do you miss the fact that the engine in the MG3 isn't turbocharged?

The MG3 lacks the torque of the MG6 forcing you to change down a gear or two, other than that no I don't miss the turbo. I drive out of necessity now and the congested roads make cars with more performance pointless for me.

My first commute in the new MG3, 48 miles at a very acceptable 53mpg. The new car seems to have more torque than our existing MG3. The new sports seats and steering wheel are great.

 

BTW, this is the binnacle that is used in the Chinese sold version which has a cleaner look:

They must be using up their old stock of MPH dials as there can't be many places in the world which use MPH instead of KM/H.

Following the demise of my MG6 I used our 2016 S/S MG3 on my commute out of necessity. Even though I commute early in the morning and late in the evening the Trans Pennine route I use is never an empty road and it quickly became apparent that the MG3 was up to the job of keeping up with the flow of traffic.

Admittedly I am a gear down on the longer uphills and I overtake slower vehicles less. Overtaking is generally pointless anyway as there are pinch points at both ends and all the vehicles you have overtaken catch you up!

The new MG3 feels even stronger on the hills than our 2016 model, despite being restricted to 3k for the running in period. The MG3 Exclusive sports seats are better than both the 2016 MG3 & my previous MG6. It doesn't feel like a small car and to be honest I am really enjoying driving it. It was a "head" not "heart" purchase, at £9995 for a brand new car with 7 year warranty I couldn't find anything new more suitable for the money. I do think I am going to get quite attached to this car though 😁.

 

With your commute have you driven through any strong cross winds, did you notice them much in the MG3 compared to the MG6?
