Hi jay pistons are the same if you have the 1.8 k series vvc ? The only difference on the turbo engine is the conrods are 2mm shorter to lower compression also different is the oil filter housing and a boss for the oil return to block hope this helps

Hi James the turbo pistons are the same as the vvc 160 pistons, you can pick a full turbo kit …. liners, rods and pistons for around £250 on the old eBay should do over 200 HP if set up correctly

 

If I was you though I would look at getting a donor turbo engine it would be cheaper and less hassle than rebuilding yours unless you plan on doing it as a hobby/ a bit of fun … as you could use the Saic 1.8 tse engine which would be just as easy

 

It is more of a hobby that i can do with my sons. I like the idea of built not brought. Plus my lump is low mileage and very reliable. Thank you for you brilliant advice

 

With the Saic 1.8 tse engine dont you have to modify the crank sensor to use the older mg rover ones ?

 

you would be using the pg1 gearbox and the crank sensor is in the gearbox on the turbo engines

 

From what ive read my car has the pg1 gear box already. But will need to investigate this to be sure

 

There is two types on crank sensor on the k series, one the goes through the block and reads the back of the flywheel and one that goes in the pg1 gearbox and reads teeth on the side of the flywheel
