Hi, I just bought a USB OBD scanner and there are no instructions with it.

What is the order of operation to get it working?

Do you plug it into the car and then start the software then start the car

or start the car then plug in the OBD thing and then start the software

or.......

I havent tried it yet, I dont want to damage anything.

Thanks
Mark.

You will need the necessary software installed on your laptop first, then it's as described above:

1:plug the diagnostic tool in, while you have it plugged into the laptop and have the software application loaded.

2:Make sure the ignition is turned to position 2, engine doesn't have to be running, though it can be if you want live sensor readings.

3:Use the software's connect feature, each piece of software is different, and it should automatically connect to the ECU.

Are using an elm 327 or simular to that. If so i use some software called Digimoto which
is a very good program it allows you to reset your service light. Airbag light it also includes diagnostics for all your engine.

if you would like to know more or would like to get hold of this software then email me
and i will get back to you as soon as possible.

I also use other diagnostic software but find this is very easy to use and has nearly every think you require for your car.

what sort of software do you have at the moment ?

I got a few things with the ELM327 interface.

ScanTool.net, ScanMasterElm Demo, OBD2Spy, wOBD and EasyObd2.

I could only get ScanMasterElm Demo and EasyObd2 to do anything. Though I couldnt get ScanMasterElm Demo to read any fault codes, EasyObd2 worked ok and I managed to read my faults and reset the MIL, live data also worked when I started the engine. Unfortunatly with EasyObd2 I couldnt see a way of saving any data displayed on screen.

I took a screen shot of the freeze capture thingy ill post it up in a bit.

What does it all mean? From what I can tell is that either one of the lambda sensors is not working right or my cat needs replacing. Can any one shed any light on this?

Thanks.
