Now then...got a problem...:(

We are in the process of fitting a sound system into my mates Clio 172....we're about three quarters done!! However we have a problem.

He's keeping the standard headunit and using RCA convertors to run down to the amps at the back where we are splitting the signal into 2 amps....easy enough, done it before...no problem so far...

The problem is he's cut all the speaker wires from the block at the back of the unit and none of them seem to match the colours on the speakers!! Bloody Renaults :cus:

If I put a battery on the + and - at one end and then put a small bulb at the other that should tell me which cables are which shouldn't it??

have you got a volt meter? also, do you still have the old cables??

they usuall match up or, if there some form of connector like a chocolate block that has cables in and out

your idea of a blub will work aslong as you have pwr to the unit, but for christ sake be careful

also remember that most speaker cables with have a coloured cable be it yellow and then a multi coloured cable like yellow and green

look for matching cables like that and you should be able to work down and get them seperated

I used to take a 2 cables from the new speakers and touch them to the cables at the block to see which are which, pwr the unit on and balance the sound to front right, now touch the cables one at a time and see which cables give you the sound

then move it to front left and repeat

rinse repeat for rear right/left

thats 8 cables done plus you pwr/negative/earth

It sounds daft but I should really be able to do this without having to ask as I worked in car audio for a couple of years!!

It's no problem finding the power/earth/remote...that's a piece of p:***:s but finding out which speakers are which is a pain in the arse! To top that off I don't think we've got the code for his stereo...:(

bugger, mate I sent you a PM

right

do you have a stero lying around that you can get working??

if so do the blance/fade thing - its the only way to insure you get the correct setup otherwise its going to be all over the shop

We've found the stereo code so we've got it working again and we're going to do the balance/fade theory which I reckon will work. Thanx for the help!!

P.S sent you a PM back!! Says pretty much the same as on here!!

Jesus H Christ.....:) Finished at last.....taken nearly all day though....I'm never getting a Frog-mobile EVER!! :D

I'm knackered and my knees and back hurt like hell!! The worst part is I've got to drive back up to Hull from Northampton in about 20 mins...:(

Guess who took nearly THREE HOURS to get home last night!!! On a good day I've done it in 1hr 15mins before....(Not bad for a 130 mile trip!! :err: )

I'm grumpy as hell about it 'cos I missed out on the pub!! ;)

It's amazing how much a bit of rain can slow down an entire motorway to a top speed of 50 to 60 mph... You just couldn't see anything 'cos of the amount of spray being kicked up and with it being dark and raining on top everyone just went rrrreeeaaalllyyy slowly! Oh well....could have been worse, could have been accidents every 10 miles....

Too right! I'd have given up on life if it had been much worse!! Mind you, once I got back on the M18 and then M62 it was a lot better, even managed to get up to 'instant ban' speeds a couple of times!! :D But not for long!!

#19 ·
:err: 100+ easily......:err: just got to keep an eye out for the pigs....:err: I think the instant ban rule is great...if you're going to break it go the whole hog or don't bother at all!! :D

#21 ·
Today I will mostly be using the word 'pigs' and tomorrow I will be using the word 'filth'! You need to have a different name for the scum each day of the week or it becomes boring....just out of interest what do you call the vehicle they use to collect drunks and fighters in town on a Saturday night, we call them 'Paddy Wagons' up here.....don't know where that came from...:D Just thought I'd ask!! :D

#22 ·
LOL!

Erm....I don't tend to go out in the towns.....feel to old for that kinda thing! Hence my lack of experience with the police ;)

Hey, give those guys a break! They have a job to do like all of us......without them, this country would be a different story indeed..

I have some Rover-mad Policemen friends....not on here, as far as I know, but I meet up with him at shows ;) Top bloke, too, with a top motor!

At least the dirty law bending buggers have got some taste!! Most of them drive around in sheds (not literally, although I've heard a rumour...) :D

Yeah they've got a job to do, but then so have I and I don't get to drive a derestricted Scooby Turbo around for it!!

#25 ·
Yeah, I suppose that's justice for you!! :D They should be given pedal tricycles and told to get fit, most of the 'bab' round here have 'homer' bellies and the easiest way of buying them off is to offer them some donuts!! (That's if the fat c:***:ts can catch you in the first place!!)
