Actually he slated MG Owners Clubs members (quick edit!) ;)

The cliche image of an MGOC member is a musty old chap peering into a bonnet along with other musty old chaps, muttering about carburretors, while tweed-wearing women make tea in large urns in the background.

Hence the expectation (and hope) that the MG will break down - any excuse to talk engines and get 'dirty under the fingernails' :)

Vettel what a bloke. Likes Monty Python and can do a Brummie accent.
Yes, watching a german doing a brummie accent has to be one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

In fairness my MG did break down tonight lol.
Did you stand at the side of the road saying "Oh, dear"?

I'm impressed - thread created literally withing seconds of JC mentioning MG owners clubs! Speed warrioring right there! :broon:

When he initially asked 'who is in a car owners club', I went 'me!!!' then when talking about the man in the audience I thought, I bet he mentions MG.

Did laugh at the silly breaking down commentary ;)

Anyway, it wouldn't be such a resource and community if our cars were super reliable boxes...

I Lol'd at the comment and to be honest it should be taken with a pinch of salt. I thought tonights episode was quite good.

As for Vettel I think he has just upped his popularity in this country. I already rate the lad very highly but I was still Impressed with his interview and his lap...

Cheers,
Matt

Good show tonight.

Lots of interesting content and Vettel really is a star in or out of that reasonably priced car.

For me. best episode since the race between the Vincent Black Shadow, XK120 and the A1 'new' Steam Locomotive Tornado.

What's Tornado Dad?

Have a look and listen ~ turn up the sound :~

Im glad Im not the only person who really enjoyed tonights episode - in Clarkson's own words "it's been mostly about cars", perhaps they should stick to doing that for a while as the old format was getting a bit stale...

Agree with the comments about Vettel, I'm gonna find it a lot more difficult to want the bloke to lose if he is a nice guy lol. I think he's going to have made a lot more british fans tonight.

The MGOC comments were hysterical, and to be fair, probably quite accurate; most of us here arent afraid to dive in under the bonnet when needs be.

And that Ferrari 458. Phwoar!

Don't worry MG is in good company. Mclaren lost the road test despite being scientifically better in every way than the 'fire' prone Ferrari and a good 3 seconds faster than an Enzo on the track.

Apparently it's just not a pretty as a 458. But I've seen Clarkson's taste in women...

Vettel was great, taking the mick out of MG was quite funny and what you would expect, and the new Mini Range Rover came out of it petty well despite Victoria Beckham. I want one of those, a Range Rover that doesnt cost a fortune to run Fab, Im not that keen on the Mclaren styling either, but then I carnt afford one anyway

I have to admit, I did laugh at the MG clubs comments, but you have to admit, the perceived image of the Owners Clubs to the majority of anyone not a member on here will be of the older MGs, bearded owners and pipes!

Of course, anyone on here knows differently ;)

That is very true and somthing SAIC will battle with in getting new a generation of consumers to buy their product. Re CLARKSON, just saw a repeat over here of a Top Gear 2004 show when MGR went belly up.Interesting when CLARKSON showed pictures of fields of unsold MGR cars for sale and mentioned that everyone thought he was responsible for MGR's demise and grab yourself a bargain.
Then James MAY pipes up "I have always thought the 75 was a great car".

I get a funny feeling the MG comments were slightly set up as a dig to certain members on certain MG forums complaining to the BBC about Clarksons comments about the 6.

Still i laughed and he has a point lol. Show was good tonight but i feel the piece at the end about what cars you could get for under ÂŁ7k was a little rushed.

How many Germans and BMWs this week?

Two news items mentioned BMW, they had a german in the reasonably priced car, they talked about Schumacher and had an image of him, they tested a BMW and a Merc, they test drove a Porsche... Guess the Bentley doesn't count as it was a UK one...
