Is it a standard characteristic of the car for a poor throttle response? when I "blip" the throttle it seems to take a while to pick up, also the revs sometimes take longer to drop off? I've only driven the 120+ i have (i loved it so much i brought it) so i have nothing to compare it to....

I know how you feel M8 my 218is
same Motor basically! is the same
there seems ro be a delay when you boot it.
I have tried allsorts inc that Alloy throttle
body everyone is raving on about it made no difference if i add a performance Air filter straight onto the throttle body it makes the problem worse! 2 Rover Dealers said it was normal & couldn't do anything... But the 1.4s dont do it..?? Strange world we live it... 129mph Flat out so far so it does go eventually
??? ??? ??? >=(

you could get a lightened flywheel from PTP or caterham (should fit, check first) warrenty problems though

but this will just improve throttle response and not really help on road performance

i recently had a drive of the vw GTDi turbo diesel 150 bhp (0-60 8.6)

sounds like a corsa van ticking over
revs while staionary like a transit van
picks up better than GTi MPi metro (1.4 MPI K16)

ok so the turbo is helping but its an example of poor throttle response and performance being too different things in some cases

to get the k series shifting its a simple case of revving to 6500 revs in 1st and then it will go some if u keep the revs high

After a lengthy discussion with PTP it looks like I'm going to make the trek up there and leave the car wich them for a week, it looks as though I'm going to be voiding my warranty from the out set with a new IGP air intake box (not filter only because with a filter you sucking hot air back into the engine creating a hotter intake is worse for combustion as I'm told by PTP!!) They will also fit a Janspeed racing CAT and back box along with the 140PSI re worked head. Hopefully ) this will improve my throttle response and the car should be a bit more responsive through the range! when its all done I'll post rolling road figures so you can see the difference. btw next on the list is STOPPERS ) :eyes

Just a mention, in a test of Cats on MGFs, the racing cats made almost no difference what-so-ever to power.

btw, I wouldn't bother with the lightened fly wheel, it made little difference to my MGF. (Same engine).

Throttle pick up should be ok on the 120, maybe have a talk to the Doc before you spend lots of money and void your warranty. (Which I really don't recommend you do).

if your going to go to that expense you may aswell go for a 165 head with hydrulic lifters if you are going to use it just on the road

mechanical lifters would be better if you are going to use it alot at or around the redline or on track.

consult with PTP who should be able to advise which would be best (hydrulic or mechanical lifter)

you will only kick yourself after you have had the work done if you dont fit the 165 head

should have same performance if not better than the ZR 160 then, you might want to get the ZR braking system install at the same time too, if you got the cash get PTP to do this as they should have access to MGR parts as they are a sub division of a MGR dealership.

may aswell get a performance exhuast manifold fitted at the same time to help free up the exhuast system

if money was no obeject i would opt for the wonderful 220 bhp engine, might wanna invest in some 6 pot stoppers then though :)

When I drove Dave's ZS120, I remember actually thinking it picked up very well... so, all in all, very weird that yours appears not to.. Don't suppose you're near Luton on the 5th June are you!?
