Is it possible to swap/replace the blade on one of our keys? I bought a spare key from Fleabay because the loop has broken on one of our keys, but the loop on the replacement key has the blade in it and we need to put ours in it's place!
Please let me know if I've gone and bought the wrong thing (again!)

Classed as the securest car of their time, the chip in the ZT/75 fob causes no end of issues, I should know, I went down the E-bay route and lost money.

The best bet is to go back to the last owner or even the one before that, amazing how many keys are left on hooks, in drawers etc. when a car gets sold!

Hi i been to one of them key cutting shops just to get a copy of my key cut as its the only one ive got, as i know its only waiting game until i lock them in the boot. No luck 'its the only cut we cant cut sorry' Have tryed 3 more shops all in different towns and they all say the same 'main dealer only'
I only want the key, not the remote or to start the car!

i have had a spare key cut at my local Timpsons....ask around if you live in a big city or relatively big town your Timpsons will have the relevant cutter.

mine was cut in Braehead shopping centre in Glasgow, with me buying a mini one keyblank from ebay...sorted

Ive got the small key box which is magnetized so i can stick to the underside somewhere, but i cant get a key cut anywhere!
Im thinking of putting a mars bar in it, so ive have something to eat while i decide how to break into my car!

My local Timpsons didn't bat an eyelid either. Told me that they'd cut a blank (that I had to supply) and clone the transponder for ÂŁ15.

For starting purposes, it has to be an unused transponder but if you're just wanting to lock/unlock the car then that's not a problem for you.

So if you buy a spare blank from ebay you can get it cut at Timpsons and that will open the car. Will it turn in the ignition? And if you buy a second hand 75 circuit board can it be reprogrammed to your own car?

I'm sure this question has come up before but there is so much on here about replacement keys!!

If i get hold of a new key wih barcode( assuming its the right barcode??!!) then all i need is to get blade cut and programmed and im sorted???
There is one on ebay at moment and i only have the one key for my connie??

Also we know you can have keys disabled from the system if they get lost so they wont unlock or start the car, you would not be able to do this if the transponder was the same as you would lock out both keys for starting the car.

There are 3 parts to a 75/ZT key:

1. The blade - a blank can be copied - will unlock the door, boot and steering lock, but not release the immobiliser.

2. The circuit board and buttons for the alarm and remote locking - factory set, cannot be changed - the details on a new key are on a label attached to it in the form of a barcode. It's those details that are needed for the car to be programmed to the key on T4 for the alarm and remote locking function (not the key to the car).

3. Immobiliser chip - factory set to the car - cannot be changed but there have been posts about it being cloned - not always successful as they can lose the rolling code within the car immobiliser system.

It is the immobiliser chip that causes most problems, a guaranteed working key is only available from BMW.
Each car immobiliser system has 10 possible codes, the details of which are kept by BMW in Germany according to the car's VIN number.(Each key, although for the same car, has a different code)
When a new key is ordered it is supplied with the immobiliser chip set with the next available code and the blade already cut, from their records. (which is why it takes so long)

Key issue.

Don't know if this is of any use to anyone, i am getting a new key for my ZT on Mon, from a member of the forum ( Immoman ) he has a place in Leigh Gr Manchester. He will supply a fully remote key for ÂŁ145 or one that will unlock and start the car manually, for ÂŁ70.
pm me if you want his phone number.

When you say remote, will it operate central locking by remote and start the car ?

he supplies a new transponder which ho codes to you car and no it is not cloned, he did mine without touching my key all needed was the left car open and your key when hes finished, he puts the new transponder into you key and starts the car ,the old transponder is never used at all but can still be used in any key that is cut to fit your car and if you buy a key from e bay with the bar-code it can be t4d to work the remote on that key also. by the way this is my second post on the issue since i said i will not post again thats only because people will not believe me when i said 3 months ago it can be done
love cuddles and kisses to all
