That duo-tone dash is an option I was surprised to learn recently when I visited an MGR dealer:err:

Are you sure Steve.... I've just visited http://www.rover.co.uk where it says 'To refresh the cabin design further, a duotone fascia interior trim can be specified with the top half of the design in Puma and the lower part in Smokestone.'

I must admit when we visited the Motorshow, I certainly left with the impression that the duotone dash was standard - but I was told by the dealer it was an option. Certainly my understanding of what I read on the site would suggest it as an option and not standard fitment. From memory, the 45 I looked at had the lowered suspension and a single colour dash, which I would have thought suggests a 2003MY car.:err:

When I worked for Rover Netherlands there were funny things in the ordering system (computer).

Some options where standard. But you need to add these options manually when you order the car in the system. If you don't the car simply misses the part.

Quite funny. Perhaps this is the case. It's a free option. But dealers must order it (manually) on the car else the car won't have it. And you just saw a stock car wich didn't have the part.

We all know dealers prefer selling their interest costing stock above a new ordered car. ;)

I think the 2003 models currently being delivered are a bit of a mixture.

There is a 2003 Rover 45 in Phoenix MGR Preston, it has the new style seats, new dials, new heater control decals, lower suspension and turbine alloys. However it is fitted with the old style dash with glossy walnut veneer (should be matt rosewood) and a R75 style gearknob (should be new shape as in 2003 R25).

I suspect there is a shortage on some of the new style parts.

hello!

Can I ask something a bit silly, please? We were at the Brimingham Motor Show and noticed that the dash for the 25 MY2003 was made of a completely different material to previous years. However, the pictures in the brochures show the old dash. Were the show cars just teasing us?? They looked much more up to date than our 25.

Otherwise I'd like to say how much I like this site - we're pretty much starved of MGR information here in Germany, so I dare say I'll be posting quite a few questions in the coming weeks!!

Thank you

Welcome to the site David... great to hear from you:) And feel free to ask any questions.

I was at the Motor Show in Birmingham and honestly can't recall seeing any difference in the 25 dash, aside from the withdrawal of the wood effect insert above the front parcel shelf / airbag.

You can check out images in the image gallery from the Birmingham Motor Show.

I too noticed that...
At the Motorshow the dash appeared solid, whereas my 2002 dash is soft feeling...

I think they've done more that just remove the bit about the glove box.... I can only assume the new version is cheaper to produce / better quality...

thanks John!

it's hard to explain - the Motor Show 25 had a dash that looked moulded all out of one type of soft plastic with a different grain. My 25 looks like it is plastic, coated in foam and then coated in vinyl.

I agree about the missing wood (shame IMO).

I reckon I wasn't looking properly at the MS, but it is a funny thing, though...
