I agree with the people who are commenting on speed and that it isn't something you advertise.

However in all fairness if you own a car that can do, for example 120mph and for whatever reason you found it was underperforming, you'd be quite within your rights to try and find out what the cause is. At the end of the day the law might apply to us on public roads, but at the end of the day it is his property and he's entitled to race it/rag it anywhere where the laws/stautory speed limit doesn't apply. Say, private land for instance.

I realise your not commenting on this particular case but you don't exactly go out and buy a Rover 25 1.4 hoping to do over a ton regularly :p

i agree speeding around schools or built up areas is dumb but on a motorway on a clear night with no one around ain't as bad surely.
Still it doesn't make it right, does it?

everyone on this forum speeds never met anyone that doesn't i speed on open roads when it is safe like everyone else giving some one stick because they have done 96 mph come on we've all had a play in our life's if he was doing it past a school at 3.00pm then i would be the first person wanting to break his legs.
I think most people in here realise many other people have attempted silly speeds, however not everyone jumps on to a forum, brags about it, and then proceeds to ask how to go faster!

i personaly have never understood why they make cars that go sooo fast?? whats the point legal limit is 70 mph. if u want to race forexample then have a car for the track but make it that it cant be on the road....

sorry there i go running the country again.

a vote for me is a vote for no speeding and a return to common sence:))

in my opinion the main factor in most accidents is slow drivers how many times have you been sat behind a driver that insists on going 10 MPH below the speed limit with a long que behind them everyone gets peed off and then starts overtaking in stupid places if you cant do the correct speed limit through bad eye sight or being a nervous driver then you should not be on the road full stop.

well thats my opinion aired

No, absolutely not - but i'm sure this guys top speed is meant to be over 96, and if it is then his car isn't operating correctly. I've got to admit if I thought my car was being a bit poorly i'd want it fixed.

Someone earlier mentioned 'why do we build cars that go so fast' - the answer is because engine power and speed don't go well together. It doesn't take a big engine to get a car to 70, however to give a car the performance characteristics it needs tp be 'streetwise' - it needs the sort of power that results in a car that can exceed 70 quite happily.

Plus, cars are made for international markets, so it would be a lot of hassle to limit vehicle top speeds.

if we had cars that could only manage 70, we'd be driving something the size of a ZT with an engine from a smart car, but nobody would ever do 70 because we wouldn't have enough road.
power gets us to speed quick, but as a byproduct it goes faster on full afterburners.

must admit, i like fast... fast is good... but still, time and place.

see that leads me onto my point about how road tax should be on the petrol. that way it isnt a lottery of what car u have (which pushes up the price of said cars) its done on milage and fule consumption. ie the old lady that has a 4 wheel drive but just uses it for the weekly shop pays less than the guy that drives 50 miles to work but more than the old lady with the smart car doing the weekly shop.

sorry this is compleatly off topic.

i dont think its about being a do gooder everyone breaks a law at some point in thier lives. what speed someone drives at is down to them selves they run the risk as the same as everyone else.

I think the issue is more about talking about it in a public place. u wouldnt go and rob a bank and then shout about it in ya local pub.

the thing i dont like about speeding is that it is almost socialy acceptable now and accepted that people will speed. they put cammeras in not to catch the speeders but to slow people down in certain places. which to my mind is a little like saying ok u can break the law just dont do it in such and such a place.

somethings not right here mate....mainly its all these numpty's telling you not to speed because none of them have ever been over a tonne illegally!!
come on guys this is a help forum not a telling off forum haha

but yeah your car is crap basically lol my 1.48v did 115 on speedo and 111 on sat nav....so basically im guessing the sat nav was correct...it had enough time to be haha!!

and that baby only has 75 break on a good day!!

your car needs everything servicing so plugs leads oil both filters...hell even change the injectors if you can get some cheap!! the tyres pumping up to the correct pressure, and make sure none of your brakes are binding as your car should top 100 in 4th gear!! mine does 115 and i dont think the ratio's are that different!!

is it running smooth (can you feel a little skip in the engine running) ?? can you hear the pads rubbing on the discs?? are your tyres pumped up?? did you have the windows up when you tried the top speed or air con on??

what were the plugs like were they a nice biscuit brown colour? if not it might give ya a clue as to the problem.

dont know much about exhausts. is the 3.5 inch back box the same as a standered one? r u getting the same back pressure with it? is the air filter getting a good supply of air?

have u tried replacing the fuel filter?

just some random suggestions

spark plugs looked a biscuit brown, due to then never being changed in 7 yrs, the exhaust is a direct fit, air filter getting a good supply of air. i tried changing the fuel filter a couple of weeks ago but the freed was wrong and didn't want to force it on.

sorry for the late reply.
