Hi everyone, I got my MGF a couple of weeks ago and it has been brilliant but coming home from Yorkshire - Norfolk last week I was faced with a large bang followed by a cloud of steam. The coolant had gone and it had obviously burst a pipe, so the AA took me to our garage who narrowed it down to the thermostat not opening, so they have replaced that as well as the pipe and a new expansion bottle cap.
All was fine and I was driving it around yesterday all day but this morning I had to head back to uni in Yorkshire for my assessment and after 30 miles the temperature gauge hit the top and I had a load of steam again. many nasty words were shouted and the AA came out to look, after waiting half an hour for them they came and fired it up only for it to behave normally, no coolant loss at all and it sat on half as always! He bled it through and followed me home again. After getting home he checked the radiator temp and said it was quite cold and there was a hissing from around the expansion tank. The garage are convinced the H/G has gone but it was replaced in November and there is no creamy oil or water.
