Extra lugs?!
Hi all,
Thought I'd do a nice easy job by fitting the chrome trim ring I got before Christmas.
Dismantled the new one, which came with the plastic outer seal and allen bolts, drew several sketches to make sure everything went back in the right order. Then set about dismantling my existing filler cap

It turns out that, in addition to the three wide retaining lugs attaching the lock mechanism to the metal outer ring, which feature in the 'how to' above, there are three smaller, more fiddly, more springy retaining lugs, presumably a later 'improvement' to the original design.
If anyone has succeeded in replacing the trim ring on a later fuel cap, how did they manage to remove the original trim ring?
