New to the forum! and owner of a 75 CDTI CLASSIC, SE. with 83000 miles to it.

took it in for new tyres last week and the manager of the garage said that he had owned a couple of 75's, he pointed out that mine was fitted with a parking heater, great stuff i thought "but what does it do"?

I've been on GOOGLE and Yahoo for some info on what the parking heater does, which is all good, but i still haven't got a clue how to use the thing. I know where it is, under bonnet, i know what it looks like and i know what it's for, but i now need to know how to use it.

can anyone out there give some advice.

First off welcome to the forum..:welcome: try a search on here for FBH or fuel burning heater,I dont have one but I understand they run off the diesel and come on automatically below 5degrees to warm the cabin and also may warm the coolant as well to get the engine up to temp quicker in cold mornings thus avoiding wear?? not 100% but Im sure flyer will put me right:confused:

Welcome on board.

Three vesions of the auxiliary heater system on the diesels.

1) Just the heater unit under the bonnet by the battery. It will kick in automatically when temp is 5c or lower and will help the engine warm up.

2) As above, with a timer unit fitted in the centre armrest, this can be set to bring the heater on at the next timer set time, or overridden using the flame key. This can then warm the car up before you get into it, it heats the coolant and bring the interior climate conttrol system on to warm up the car's interior.

3) As in 2, but with the addition of a remote control to go with the keys, this allows you to put the heater on by remote control up to 300 metres away.

Nice feature to have the full system when the winter comes.

HTH, regards, Rob.

however i remember reading somewhere that you can have a set up where you can activate it by phone !!!! Weird or what. Flyer.
Yeh mines like that, just phone it up half an hour before i leave the house and when i get in ooooooh all nice and warm, two things though, you have to set the internal heater controls to whatever setting you require for the next morning before you switch off the ignition, and you have to either top up or use the SIM card within six months or it will be de-activated, in my case by O2, and as my SIM is behind the heater controls it means removing them to get at it.
