Noisy Climate control

I have a ZT-T and the climate control is quite noisy to the point of being annoying. It sounds like a low whining noise and you can here it when accelerating, this goes away when you turn off the climate control. It this normal on the ZT, as other cars I have driven do not sound like this and it seems to be worse now than when i bought it 12 months ago. I am also getting a slight continuous hissing noise that also goes away when you turn the air con off.

Any ideas?

Mine did this the other day, I think. Sounds like power steering whine at low revs. But only on one day, not done it since.

It is normal for it to hiss after turning off, albeit low in volume, its the gas stopping and expanding.

Could be the belt as there would be more load on it when using the aircon, I did notice it when I was manoevering, so using powersteering and low revs.

how many miles has it done and age?

Mine hisses at low but noticeable volume when the compressor kicks in to provide the cooling. I think that it is part of an aging a/c unit and perhaps a service - refrigerant levels? - of the system would help. I plan to get mine looked at in due course and have been advised on this forum to go to an a/c specialist, not use an ex Rover dealership.

I have now started to enjoy the warm weather using my switch operated old school a/c units - four fitted, one to each door. Smelling the fresh air as I cross the plains never was so good. Annoying, but there are worse faults to worry about 'til I get it checked out.

It's exactly 12 months and done 7000miles, however there was no refrigerant in the system when I bought it. So I wonder if they did not fill it correctly or I have lost some. It still cools, but I wonder if it could be low thus causing the compressor to be noisy.

A/Cs seem to have a mind of their own.

I have an 18T 75 and from the day I got it from the dealer aged 11 months its been noisy on the a/c front. Especially the fan which my wife says she hears from down the road long before she hears or sees the car!! (She does tend to go over the top).

Dealer said it was just the extra fan cutting in and that it was normal. If I turn it on econ or off then the noise disappears. When I turn it back on theres a slight squeak/whine then all is fine (but noisey) again.

Be interested to find out what the answer is.

What you are describing is completely normal, if a little irritating

I get the short whine on start up of the a/c but only occasionally, if the car is very hot.

Although my fan when the aircon is turned on is only noisy for the first few minutes and only when its really warm outside, after the few minutes or the weather is below 20 degrees its on normal speed and not really noticable - you hear from the front of the car it slow down from the big hoover to normal desk fan :D .

Does yours spin on the faster louder speed all the time?
