man i loved the original twingo when i was a kid, loved the idea of a twngo with and r5 gtt enginen when i got a bit older.

well, I suppose they should have done something to it, because nowadays it looks dated.

I thought it was very original when it first appeared, but this version seems too ... conventional ( IMO, it'll just follow current trends)
I love the new Clio, I'll try and post some pics on here.

 

And people complain that the CR has a cheap interior - the new Twingo seems to be made out of an old tent!

I've got to say that I love the Renault Twingo.

My parents live in Spain and they have had a Mark 1 Twingo (1995) and last year bought a new Renault Twingo 1.2 16V Privilege.

It is quite an innovative little car - I love the sliding rear seat and especially the digital speedo which means that it is always in the eye-line and you always know how fast you are going. I must say that it makes an enormous difference having Power Steering on the Twingo. I didn't think that it needed it until I drove my parents new Twingo.

 

By the way, have you seen spy pics of the new Clio? (in the front, it looks like current Megane; it seems larger- don't know if it'll share platforms with Mégane), and its rear looks similar to that in Nissan Micra.

Micra and Clio are on the same platform.

Megane and Almera likewise.

The next Clio - the one scooped above - will be based on the current Nissan Micra. I guess the next Twingo will use a variation of this platform too, and will probably come in RHD. When the original Twingo was launched Renault were a bit strapped for cash and decided not to spent extra on moving the steering column. Since that car was launched the so-called sub-B catagory of cars smaller than Clios, Fiestas et al has grown enormously and Renault would be daft not to bring the new model to the UK in right-hand drive. Although obviously if they do it'll join the new Panda in making the CityRover look ancient and probably overpriced.

 

Anyone who sees the New Almera might actually think it is a Megane... they look nearly identical....

Also, the car was an interesting gamble because back then - 1991 I think it was - there were very few sub-supermini cars. A few years ago there was talk of a RHD version but, since the car was never designed with this in mind, it was ruled out on cost grounds. However, there's a bloke in Wales - I think his business is actually called The Enthusiastic Welshman or similar - who imports LHD Twingos for people in the UK who really want one.

He also converts some of them to RHD.

 

I didn't know he did RHD conversions. Wonder if they're any good? I once drove a friend's RHD-converted Fiat Barchetta and it was very odd; inconsistent steering weight, strange pedal feel, not at all as I've been led to believe original cars are meant to drive.
