Or not a solution
Collected my new HS today and was shocked and very surprised that there was an antenna attached to the N/S windscreen and a partial hidden lead direct into the USB. See photos.
However, I actually had an email from the dealer a few hours later to say this is a temporary fix and later in the year when the microchip situation improves they will retrofit with the new chip and remove this antenna and lead.
Apart from this the handover went smoothly.

It looks like a retrofit solution to allow you to receive the vehicle.

It is probably the same unit as this one from Amazon:

There is currently a worldwide shortage of the DAB chips and cars sold in the UK can't have a radio without DAB reception.

Cheers..

We just to keep all informed. I have just taken ownership of my MG HS. Guess what. It has the "Temporary" retrofit solution. I was not even made aware by the dealership during the test drive, or handover. Its a small issue, but angry with MG for not being professional in resolving the issue. And with the dealerships tactics

I collected my HS in March, I pointed to the Ariel stuck on the windscreen after paying and been given the keys and asked what was this? only to be told then it was temporary which I think was totally unfair and unprofessional. Problem is, the reception is awful on both FM and DAB so basically have a car with no music unless I plug my phone in everytime I get in it. I have also seen another conversation regarding this issue where MG have apologized but have told the customer this will not be dealt with and the antenna on the windscreen is the permanent fix for all MG cars sold in the UK. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Latest I have heard today is:

Thank you for your enquiry.

We are currently testing an alternative solution. Hopefully your dealership will be made aware imminently.

The new fix is to hide the box out the window and lose a usb due to it being wired from usb n hidden behind dash?with a amplifier in shark fin is that correct?still can’t save favourites and station name only no image ?very disgruntled owner😡

I spoke to my dealer (Tunbridge Wells MG) in July and he said that MG have now confirmed the 'fix' will be rectified but not sure exactly how that will happen or when, though it would be before the end of the year. As my car was delivered in January there must be a good number of 2022 cars ahead of me in the queue so I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being 2024!

The fix the offer is basically another DAB external unit that they hide behind the dash. You will loose one of the USB sockets at the front of the car so if you use them both you might want to think twice about letting them do this. Have a look on MG EV forum there are lots of very unhappy owners on there including me regarding this whole situation.

Loosing a USB socket isn't ideal but as I've already lost one for the “temporary” windscreen antenna I won't be any worse off than I am now. Could you post a link to the MG EV forum you're referring to as a Google search comes back with several potential sites and life's to short to read all of them. Thanks

Hi thanks for the info..do you know exactly where the new box is located is it behind the usb panel? I would like to try a external roof mag mount antenna as I still have poor reception where I live ..I tried the mag mount dab antenna on the old glove box converter box and it worked great but ofcourse now with this update I can't find the converter box ..lol..any ideas ? ..thanks

I bought my car a year ago and nothing was said about the absence of a DAB radio even though I kept ringing to ask why I couldn’t get my radio to work no one got back to me. The temp fix doesn’t work either in which case I suspect many of us handed been sold cars without a dab facility which is not compliant with the law in Britain. I think we need to get together and submit an ultimatum to MG to get it sorted otherwise we are going to take a hit when we need to sell our vehicles.
