After shooting off from work early and getting stuck in very bad traffic, I arrived at MGFMania (.co.uk) also known as mazmania (.co.uk) for my new glass screen hood fitting.
MGF Mania is based in farm units just outside Knutsford and run by Peter who is a MGF/MX-5 fanatic! He is also the area co-ordinator with his wife of the MX-5 owners club.
I was present throughout the fitting and Peter chatted all the way through the fitting explaining what he was doing, also about his history of hoods. He was ery professional at what he was doing and took care with everything. In fact, he's very much a perfectionist as he wasn't happy until he aligned the rubber seals perfectly and even got the selotape out at the end to get every last fibre off the hood that shouldn't have been there!!!
The quality of the hood seems better than the original and the finished product is fantastic!!! He wired the heated screen up for me and fitted the relay and switch too. I have only a couple of poor pictures as it was dark when I got home so these are taken in the garage.

I will take better pictures tomorrow in the light! I was concerned like most about the reduction in visibility but have to say, yes there is a very little chopped off the top, at the bottom I can still see the top of my spoiler but I can see all the traffic behind me so I would have to disagree with those that say the visibility is reduced!!
I can't recommend him highly enough! I'm chuffed to bits!!!!! [thumb]

It's dark again!!! Will have to wait till tomorrow! Plus, Nugget was way too dirty to have photos taken, I will clean her and then take piccies I promise!!

I drove over the M62 and back again today with very gusty winds and I was surprised that there wasn't any movement in the window due to the wind. I love the fact that I can see not only the make of car, but which model and even the reg plates! Still very impressed as you can tell!

As for prices, I paid half the price as I took a 'project' hood off their hands Normal price is around ÂŁ600 fitted but Peter did say that he is open to doing deals for retail individuals! My hood was exactly the same but the window is ever so slightly lower than the design they are now developing. (suits my 5'6'' frame perfectly!!!!)

i spoke to peter just before you arrived yesterday as my glass rear screen arrived and the CD would not run, so he managed to upload the video and i downloaded and got a cd this morning. he seems to be really inciteful and told me to give him a call if there was any issue fitting.

wanted to know how folding was with yours david?

Some more pictures...
You can see a little saginess just to the right of the glass, this just needed tucking in.

View from my mirror - My car was on a slope and I didn't have the camera where my head normally is! If it was, you'd see the top and the bottom of the car behind.

And one for the road!!

No just the rear glass panel - the hood is 8 years old.

looks great!

did u use the elastic straps at each side of the glass? and how long did it take to do?
No you don't need the straps if you're just fitting the back panel. If you fit a complete hood then the rear bow "floats" and its the straps that pull it into place. With the new glass rear panel you fit the zip carrier of the new panel to the rear bow (to replace the plastic window's zip carrier) and it's the panel that pulls the rear bow back and tensions the hood. My whole panel is as tight as a drum. It probably took me just under 2 hours by myself. The worse part was pulling the velvet strip off the rear bow.

I think that your zip carrier is not fitted properly and that's why you're getting a fold above the window. I doubt that it will go away unless you take it off and fit it properly. Try tightening up the nuts on the rear bow to see if that pulls it a little tighter.

Hi Spike, how are you?

We had agreed ÂŁ350 but he knocked ÂŁ50 off as the hood had some carpet fibres on it, he then selotaped it all off!! He's as honest as they come!!

As for the ÂŁ300 I saved...well I'm just in the process of buying a new caliper, pads and discs. Baracus has offered to show me how to get to grips with brakes!!! Mine are squeaking, humming, buzzing and squealing!!!
