hey folks,

came across a golden nugget in a local scrappy so i simply had to have it....

mk2 25 dash :D

however the biggest challenge i came across was where to mount my apexi and 2X52mm gauges....., anyone that knows me know's i hate surface mount things and stuff has to look OE.

i sat meself down infront of the dash for a good hour and hatched a plan, i then set about making a cardboard model so i could get a idea of what i was wanting and to make sure it was right:

now happy with the general shape and layout i set about making the actual item:

a little more finishing and a coating of satin black left me with something like this:

started to trim down the gear surround so it mated up right:

more trimming to get the fit perfect:

now with that part complete i set about removing the dash:

all out

and a hour or so of re-fitting leaves me with this:

now the dash is in it REALLY showed up the gear knob so that HAD to go, fit a chrome boot holder from a MGF:

and a gear knob from a BMW mini cooper:

overall i am over the moon with the whole thing, the inside of the car feels totally diferent now as the centre consol is chunkier etc...

lemme know your thoughts folks :D

cheers, simon :)

p.s. before anyone say's anything:

1. the heater control knob was replaced today as i snapped it removing it :p

2. the button for the front fogs is on order and is getting collected in the morning :p

3. the second gauge is on a plane from hong kong as i type this

yeah mate alot of people don't like the steering wheel but tbh you can't really appreciate it till you actually drive the car with it.... plus the mk2 25 steering wheel is appauling as it's rubber/plastic :( i agree it would have looked nice though :)

car will be getting a damn good going over on saturday morning as i am at the NEMM cruise in middlesboro cruise on the night time, if i get there and it's still light i will get some decent pics with my proper camera as i hope to have my proper wheels back on for them too :D

hehe already have tj

dash was a reasonably streight fit, all of the plugs for the switches were diferent but the colours of the wires matched so it was just a case of swapping the plugs over, the hazard switch is totally diferent however so i had to keep the original one (right hand side of steering wheel) and the front fogs seems diferent but i aint got the new switch yet so that will be acomplished tomorrow night....

green inserts and seats in general are appauling matt, i only bought them cos they were uber cheep and MUCH more supportive than the std 200 ones....

re-trim is on the cards after koni's :)

cheers, simon :)
