Evening everyone

Just want to pick your brains on these 'things' that have come up since owning my zed

The car has a regular constant loud beep whenever it is locked. We assume it is the headunit because when I got the car, the guy selling it told me it was the headunit (kenwood kdc3031) and was just because a door was open at the time. It is starting to annoy my parents as the cars at their house and parked outside their bedroom .... it beeps all through the night
Image

Anyway, just been out and when I took the headunit front off i noticed this red flashing LED hidden behind it like an immobiliser (but I also have the standard immoboliser in the car as well), any ideas what it is or does? (I have done a search on the headunit with no luck)

Car only came with 1 key and fob. Im going to contact the previous owner to see if they have the other ones .... but if not could a locksmith that does car keys cut another key? (or can only an x parts supplier do this? )

I found this cable end with connection block sticking out of the back of the glovebox and have no idea what it is

There is a microphone on the interior roof which runs through the passenger side trim - could it be for this?
:)

Thanks,
Luke

Looks like it.
Thanks, will look at it later today when it's light :)

Also why would a load beep from outside the car be related to the stereo ?

Sounds more like the car is miss-locking and the alarm is warning you.
The thing is - it seems the beeping is in-keeping with the LED flash from the headunit as opposed to the cars alarm / immoboliser LED which is why I assumed it was the stereo (and was what I was told it was)

The car appears to be locking fine as I have tried the doors when locked, and they lock like usual once the cars moving (you hear them lock down as soon as you drive).

thanks,
Luke

Have you tried disconnecting the stereo to see if stops beeping?! and diagnostics will not identify any problems with the stereo if it is beeping...

And as for the locking of you drivers door, its strange that the fob wouldn't lock or unlock inside the car, yet did when you went outside the car! and the door wouldn't open by pulling the pin up, as it would have been dead locked, its a security feature.

Sounds like there is nothing wrong with your car tbh, and if the stereo beeps, try having a go at re-wiring it so it doesn't, or bin it for the standard VDO one :D

Hey Luke,

Hope you get it sorted. What king of beeping does the sterio make?

My MK I makes a sort of "bip pop, bip pop *pause* bip bob, pib pob" from the speakers when I turn the engine off. Not sure if it does it when the head unit is off. I've never really paid attention.

When you tried unlocking the door from inside was the key still in the ignition.

+1 on j4miejenks diagnostic wont do nothing.

As he said disconnect the stereo an see from their?

That light should just be like a dud security light, flashes when the face off has been removed.

While your at it, recheck the wires on the back of stereo could be dodgy wiring.

Cheers Jamie - I want it to go for diagnostic to see if the door locks throwing any faults. :) Like roverman said it could be a warning that the cars miss locking, and after it deadlocked with me inside I wonder if this could be it

Dont want to disconnect the stereo until I know what the LED is, as it is hidden inside of the stereo, yet isnt mentioned in the kenwood manual; so if I pull the wires holding it in place when i remove the stereo, and they arent related to 1 another ....
And stereos being replaced very soon anyway :)

Hi Scott - cheers mate. It is like a beep (wait a minute or so) beep .... and so on

Why don't you troubleshoot it, take the head unit out and see if the problem persists.
and if its just sitting at your mum and dads, have the decency to disconnect the battery and lock it via the key!!
See above
It stays at my parents while im over in Cardiff, so it goes 3 or 4 days without me being there but they're insured on it and have been driving it about for me when im not there :)

I 'think' it was still in the ignition but was all turned off (I was panicing a bit at the time mind) :)

That beepign won't be the Stero - that's the exact same unit that was in my ZR (and that never beeped). In fact, I've never known any Kenwod unit to beep (only ever experienced a Sony that did it).

As to the beeping does it sound like someones "plipping" the horn - that's the mis-lock alarm warning. Now in light that you're having problems with the locks anyway leads me to suggested that there might be something wrong wth the master locking soleniod in the driver's door. Have you tried locking it overnight with the key instead? Does it do it if you leave it unlocked (whilst keeping an eye on it of course).

Anyway, just been out and when I took the headunit front off i noticed this red flashing LED hidden behind it like an immobiliser (but I also have the standard immoboliser in the car as well), any ideas what it is or does?
Its the stereo saying its security is active. Its got nothing to do with the car's imobiliser. It cn be turned off through one of the menus. Kenwood's website (kenwood-electronics) has got a good library of PDF manuals.

I found this cable end with connection block sticking out of the back of the glovebox and have no idea what it is
That's the glovebox light switch.

I can confirm this, my cousin had a Kenwood stereo and it never beeped, my Sony headunit beeps 3 times every time the car is turned off ( It goes beep beep beep, beep beep beep, beep beep beep!) so I doubt it's the headunit, because if it was it would have made a longer/more distinctive sound.

As above, it does sound to me like its a beep indicating that something wrong, and since the drivers door lock isn't working properly i'd give that a thorough check first. The mk2 zeds are known to have bad electrics!

hi again guys, well it seems everyone that said the door locks was right

Last weekend my mum pointed this noise out to me when I locked the doors which I caught on video

It isnt particularly a good video sorry - and you need to have the volume high to hear it (it is between 3 and 4 seconds) .... I would describe the sound almost like a car when the batterys flat, the 'machine gun' fire sound

Since then it seems to make that noise everytime I lock the doors

Came back this weekend, went to drive it last night and had a flat battery! Just what I needed when I was meeting a friend a 11pm and it was 10.30 .... ! Assume it is because of the beeping, charged it up all day then drove it about for a few hours this evening just to check it is going okay and everything seems to be a okay .... so its going to the mechanic later on

any ideas what is causing that noise though? Is it the door locking motor ?

Common problem mate, knackered motors.

Funny think when I had my MK2 after doing it for about 8 months it fixed itself !
Great (well - that I know what it is now  ) - thanks mate :)

That is strange! Will get it fixed asap though as it is starting to annoy me

hello all.
I like this forum and i want to ask a question. i want to buy rover 200, now, can u tell me more about it from driver aspect, from experience, because i am scared of the price, im from macedonia and here the price of the car is comparing with golf III or with opel corsa from (1995-1998) and if u look or compare the look of the cars is little bit funny. that why i want to know more about rover 200 because i think is perfect car for me so if u want to tell me more, how much gasoline on 100km, is it safe car, is it stable car for road...thanks so much

Hi Aleksandar , welcome to the forum :welcome:

You probably wont get many replys in this thread sorry (just because it is about a MG ZR, not a rover 200) - your best creating a new thread, and copying what you wrote into that

Just click on 'new thread' in the top left hand side after clicking on this link

You won't fix it I'm afraid, a small plastic pin inside snaps.

They are approx ÂŁ160ish quid each from rover.
Okay thankyou - saves me messing about tomorrow then :)

Do I take it they are different units to the original mk.1s (possibly because of the deadlock extra and alarm), just the mechanic said the last motor he got cost ÂŁ35 so possibly is thinking it is the same part

Luke

edit: brilliant Scott, thanks. Well a local motor factor have some ÂŁ70 fusion component speakers in, and want rid of there last set so selling them at half price effectively :) Im sorely tempted by them, so will probably pick them up in the morning and take a look at the lock while I fit them

Lukas,

I had this on my MkI mate.

The door locks had a second motor in them that engages the deadlock functionality.

There is a piece of plastic that pivots on a plastic pin, it slots into the half moon cog. The pin it pivots on snaps and causes this problem. Happened to both my doors. I used super glue on one, as it still had the pin and I stuck a bolt through the other, that I had files down to be the right size.

Alternativley, buy a new one, lol. They should come in a black mould. White moulds are the old style locks that don't have the deadlock.

Hope this is of some use fella.

I was going past a local xpart dealers today so thought I would just pop in to see if they could tell me how long it would take for them to get me a motor .... ÂŁ125 + vat on the motor but can have it in a few days; eek, as its so costy I then asked how much it would be to have them fit it as well (I am rather accident prone and dont totally trust myself fitting it ).... an hour and a halfs work sir .... okay so whats that going to be roughly? Well .... that will be ÂŁ128 + VAT! So the best part of ÂŁ280ish for a motor fitted!

My mechanic charges alot lot less then that for labour, so if I go ahead with it he will probably be getting the work.

Quick question - does anybody know the exact name and part number please? (so I can tell him/ steer him in the right directions )

Going from RimmerBros catalogue for door locks ( link )

Latch assembly-front door - LH, passenger
FROM 2003 onwards, from SN 694754
VIN
3 Door Saloon - Remote central locking - RHD
FQJ000710PMA
ÂŁ126.21 ex VAT
ÂŁ145.14 inc VAT
Does that sound right ? :)

Would this be whats causing the beeping do you think ? And so changing it could stop the beep. The cars only used at weekends at the moment, and the beeping seems to be draining my battery (to the point I needed to give it a good few hours charge on Sunday) as well as being annoying now.

Thanks again for help given already,
Luke
