Are the MGOC and MGCC just for owners of rusty old BGT's with musty smelling tweeds, or do they offer any benefit for a F/TF owner?

If it is worth joining, which one is the better bet?

Can't comment on MGCC as not a member, but the owners club does have some advantages, good technical support on newer models as well as older ones, they occasionally give members deals on parts etc, and IF you are a member of either club you can get discounts with some specialist Ins co's.
If you have a local MGOC branch go along to the meeting, although you might find that they are a little musty going on about kingpins on B's and SU carbs etc. like my local lot are ! ( I don't bother with the club meets )

HTH

( Owner of 3/4 of a roadworthy BGT not at all musty !! ):bgrin:

I am in the MGOC as well and do go to the local meets, but the major thing for me is all of the local runs and events that we attend. There are often more MGF and TF than Bs and RV8s etc on the events. Buying spares from MGOC is cheaper for members as well and companies like Peter Best give discounts to club members of MGCC and MGOC.

I joined the MGCC and am a member of the local MG club which is affiliated to the MGCC.

The MGCC caters for all MG owners, whther you car was built this century or the last. I would probably say the MG clubs have members who are more mature in years than the Mini owners I know in their clubs, but I am equally comfortable with both types of car owner. Certainly, being an owner of any club brings advantages (as others have said) for things like technical expertise, discounts and general fun.

MG club members, from my experience, seem to be more focused on maintaining their cars in original condition, whereas Mini owners seem to like modifying their cars, as well as keeping preserved originals. That, in my opinion, mirrors how the owners looked after them when they were 'current'...

As for rusty BGT's, you'll find most of these cars are in better nick than your F/TF so don't be so quick to pigeon-hole classic MGs or their owners! If your stereotypical vision of a classics club puts you off, maybe better looking for a boy-racer outfit...... (just joking!)

In summary, the MGCC is the main 'factory' owners club but has many regional 'centres' and they will be able to tell you who your local contacts are. It is certainly worth the ÂŁ36 annual fee.

Another benefit is that you can usually get a club stand entry for a show that might otherwise be hard to get as an individual entrant

MGCC for me it's a club and not a business; here in Scotland MGFreedom, affiliated to the Car Clubs MGF register are wholly focussed on the F and TF with meetings, runs etc..
Check out the MGF Register website, there is a Devon and Cornwall representative.

We joined the MGCC specifically to take part in the Caledonian centre runs. The meetings are a bit out of our way typically, but they sound like thoroughly nice people and some of the runs looks fantastic. Haven't needed any tech support or members discounts yet, but it's especially reassuring that it's there, given our cars... ideosyncrasies ;)

As pointed out by 135Pbls, it's definately worth checking the register, it's how I found that friendly MGFreedom bunch (Fs and TFs predominantly, very like-minded folk and not a whiff of mustiness).

You guys have it easy down Sarf, there's an abundance of activities and groups to choose from. :) Here we meet up just to huddle together and stay warm.

I am biased being the F/TF register Captain in the MGCC Victoria, am also a member of the UK MGCC and a regional rep of the F register. The MGCC here has some 16 registers and all welcome each others members to there respective events. We as the F/TF and Z register have our own weekend aways plus how to nights and are finding now that the modern cars are so cheap a lot of the members who have pre war, T's are buying F's for touring, they have comfotable seats, air conditioning for the very hot days power steering and hoods that keep out most of the rain plus large boots. I must admit the MGOC has a good magazine and spares shop but over here they can't offer what the MGCC has, we have over 1200 paid up members and the F's are the second largest register and growing all the time. One last thing if you want a car that can win a club championship you need an F/TF our cars have won five out of the last eight!

I've been a member of the MGOC for over 4 years and have found it very beneficial, especially for technical advice. Whatever your question you always get detailed, very informative replies from Roger Parker. He is also contributing modern MG technical articles to every, or almost every issue of the excellent magazine Enjoying MG. There are also plenty of MGOC website technical downloads (members only). Local affiliated clubs are good, plenty of meets. The annual subscription of ÂŁ36 is good value (plus ÂŁ5 joining fee).

To get the max out of it all, consider joining the MGOC and MGCC!!

Have you got a link I can join on? I did it online with PB and got quoted ÂŁ260 ish when I clicked on having a classic MG. (1997 MGF).
When I called for a quote to ask if it was right, the quote was about ÂŁ600 I think and I told her I had done it on line for ÂŁ260 and she said I need to be in the owners club and then get a discount. I don't want to join yet another car club on the promise of big discounts to find out the insureres are lying.
