MG ZR - Fitting Electric Windows - Plug and Play?

Hi guys.

Has anyone converted from manual to electric front windows on an MGZR or Rover 25 ?

I have an 04 year MGZR 3 door with manual windows. It's the latest central/deadlocking model - one of the last MK1's

I have the electric regulators and also the loom that goes in the door with the additional connectors on, that are needed to plug the regulators in to.

I know I have the wiring for the window lift switches already in the centre console under the blanking plate where the switch will fit.

Before I wade into the job blind, I have a few questions if anyone can help please:

1) - Is there anything else I am likely to need, other than the loom in the door, the regulators and the switch, for example is the rest of the wiring likely to be in place? (I am unsure whether I need a window lift ecu or not, or if the power supply works through the main ecu)

2) - Where exactly does the door loom actually connect up to the main loom?

3) - Just how difficult is the job, I am fairly clued up mechanically and electrically, but are there any awkward problems I may come across?

Thanks to anyone that may be able to help at all........

Just got a quote for the wifes 2004 ZR from a local company. ÂŁ256+VAT fitted, i didn't think that was too bad?

If you want the details let me know
hehe that is looking more attractive by the minute - its all turnin' into a nightmare LOL.

Let me have the details please just in case I can't sort it.

I am up in Sarf Yorks but its only a short run to the Midlands.

I have the various leccy bits I need, but bits of my wiring correspond with the wiring diagram on my CD and other bits don't - I dont appear to have the connectors to fit to the window lift ECU for example, although I have the relays and fuses pre-fitted.

They have obviously tweaked the wiring on the 04 cars for some reason.

I think I need a late wiring diagram from somewhere.............

MG ZR windows

Hi
I fitted electric windows, electric mirrors, changed the radio to a R770 and fitted rear speakers to my Rover 25 impression 3-door, MGZR look-alike. It was a total nightmare even with a loom from a breakers. Without a wiring diagram in the handbook and with no published Haynes Rover 25 manual it is a pain. Maybe just fitting e-windows may not be so bad but the mirrors need about 6 wires each and the connections will not be in the door harness or the main loom. The Rover dealer couldn't really help as there wasn't enough detail on the CD.
Swapping the complete loom wasn't really on as there are too many hidden connections and conduits and no guarantee there hadn't been changes. The main problem was that when the equipment isn't fitted by the manufacturer they save pennies by stripping out any unused wires, fuses, relays, etc.
I was really surprised how difficult this policy made what I considered a straight-forward upgrade. It may be that by limiting yourself to e-windows it will be easier, but anything more forget it! I am pleased I succeeded apart from the radio for which I have a duff clock display and can't tune it in. (And yes the lead to the clock is different too!)

Cheers for backing me up ref the nightmare job, SB! :beer2:
LOL - I can definately back up the nightmare job aspect alright.

SB is correct in that bits of the loom are stripped out - I got the relevant bits that go into the doors and connect up to the main loom though.

The really puzzling thing is why MGR fitted the lift switch connection plugs, plus fuses and even the relays for the circuit as standard in the fusebox (cos nothing else is on the same circuit), but seemingly omit to fit any connectors for the window control unit to fit to.
