hi

I am new to this forum and new to Rover.

I have just brought a 2002 116hp Rover 75 Tourer 60K miles FSH, all seems to be in good condition.

I am disappointed with generally 36 mpg even on a long motor way run at a steady 70 mph.

I have read of Rover Rons boxes and the MAF sensor

more performance would be nice

what do I need ?, where from (rover rons site ?)

What MPG should I get on the motorway ?

thanks for any replies, sorry if this reopens previous threads

more

hi
I should have added that it seems to take a long time to become warm

when cursing at 70 mph on motor recently the temp was 1/3 rd on the gauge, so apparently running cool.

when the engine works the temp raises (but not above mid point on the gauge)

it seems to me this may be a stuck (open) thermostat (do these engines still use the old fashions wax type like the original mini ?)

could the cold running explain the poor MPG ?

thanks

my stat is also stuck open and this winter the car has taken a bit longer to heat up but with a ÂŁ300+ bill to replace, it can stay that way!
i drive in and out of London each day and according to the computer the car averaged around 35 mpg, she never was a quick motor in fact i'd say she was quite sluggish BUT now i'v invested in a synergy2 from Ron and oh boy what a transformation. on fitting i did set it to 10 well you have to dont you?
best mod i've ever done recommend you do it. When will Ron bring out a box that goes to 11!!!!!!

by the way the ave mpg has risen to 42 but i'm still playing with the extra "power" i will go back to driving like me grandad at some point

Last year running a severly degraded MAF I averaged 54.9mpg on a weeks holiday to Cornwall (from Leeds) I tickled the throttle most of the time and was suprised with the figures which were worked out using the brim to brim method(kept all reciepts).Usual mpg around town/local was 38ish

The diesel engine doesn't get hotter than halfway on the temp gauge , well mine never has in 3 years of ownership.

You get the Synergy2 from Rons site and it does make a huge difference to the driveability of the car even on the lowest setting.

I was always getting low 30's in mine.

Put a pierburgh maf and mafam on and it improved slightly to around 36-38.

Now done the stat so the temp is right at 89-90 degrees and see what difference that makes if any.

I've got a 51 plate Rover 75 Tourer 2.0ltr cdt and have done a few mods lately .
my mpg round town is approx 37 and on a run approx 47 , my car has 160,000 on the clock .
I would recommend you try these things as a starting point , change your air filter ( i fitted a K and N one in mine ) , change your fuel filter , clean your egr valve ( or fit a egr bypass valve , makes the car perform a bit better ) , and change your intercooler O rings .
Have a look at my feedback http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=wizard9956&ftab=AllFeedback to see the items i bought for my rover .

Cheers Wizz

Ps , i expect there's nothing wrong with your thermostat , i thought the same when i bought mine , it does take ages to warm up ( do you have a fuel burning heater fitted ? ) .

is that the unit in front of the battery called a "webasto" ?

I just switched from V6 petrol to a CDT Auto, my V6 petrol would get to running temp very quickly whereas the diesel takes 3 times as long, does the fuel burning heater provide heat to the cabin?

i was originally getting 26.7mpg round town, did the air intake mod and it went up to the low thirties but then settled back down at 28 - 29mpg, had her serviced (air filter was black) and now i am getting 35.8mpg.

EGR is next then maybe a synergy2 and pierburg maf :)

had mine done 2 weeks ago. even with car overheating mpg is 44. before overcooled 40ish. But i do love pedal to metal and 1 portion of millers for that extra bit of responsiveness. Had done air mod with no improvement with mpg.

Ronbox

The fitting of a Ronbox will usually cause the MPG readings to rise because that is the effect that it has on the onboard electronics. The only fairly accurate MPG check is by the 'brim to brim ' method. If you drive your uprated diesel the same way as before fitting then you might see an actual improvement in MPG but that is not why you fitted the box in the first place is it?

before I had a ron box thinghy my milage was roughly 390 to 425 on a tank full, now with the ron box I get at least 500 to a tank. mostly main roads car says around 42 mpg before it hovered around 35 ish. nick
