Hi all,
I am looking to buy a ZR soon, it will be the 1.4 for insurance purposes. I have noticed there are different versions like the + & trophy, mk1, mk2 - could somebody explain the different specs. I want one with the alloys & body kit but they don't all have this? I also noticed that the >2004 models are different but due to my budget in will probely be a earlier model. I have also read that they are prone to HGF. What should I look out for when buying one - should I look for this to have been sorted?

Cheers.

ZR 1.4 is a good little car, but your right about the HGF, if your looking one with over 40k mileage then it may have been sorted, depends on the car, some will never have a problem, some will go every 30k, like mine!

There are signs that car has a problem, the main ones are:
1. white smoke coming from the exhaust
2. White 'mayo' under the oil cap.
3. Oil in the coolant water and dirt under the cap.
4. Coolant loss (may not be from HGF and very hard to spot on a short test drive).

If your unsure of the car and suspect a problem then build ÂŁ300-ÂŁ500 in to the budget to get the HG replaced with the Land Rover version, this way you'll have lots of worry free and VERY fun driving ahead of you!

Other things to note are that you'll want to replace the Throttle Body to desrestrict the car and get the extra 20bhp from it, so try to haggle as much money as you can off the price so you can afford the mods.

Happy hunting!

Im keeping my fingers crossed that the HG doesnt go on my next one :)

I liked driving the ZR but could'nt live with the firm ride. The seats do tend to give me back ace after afew hours (StreetWise uses the same seats).

The peformance diffrence over the 25 is down to the gearing setup. I think the ZR is .3 seconds quicker then the 103PS 25 to 60.

if your looking for a k series then i would go for the grey or yellow as i and many people think its the best colour for the car but its down to your taste.
i would go for the zr+ model as its got half leather trim, elecy windows and sunroof* and should have the body kit and hairpin alloys on. i think you would pick a good one up with about 30-40k on maybe 03 reg for around ÂŁ4000 or less if you buy private and from a dealership around 4-5K. good luck buying 1 if you do and hope to see you post on here when you get 1!:D

5Dr might be less if anything, cus most people who buy the sporty versions of a car choose the 3DR. 3.5k should get you a good car mate, you'll be looking at an 02 plate with 40k+ on which could work out well because the HG may have already been sorted.

Its good advice to get the ZR+ for "equipment" and resale reasons and getting x-power grey with the 16" hairpin alloys will also stand you in a good position when it comes time to sell as that will be the most desireable model.

Good luck!

Here are some specs for you,

The + model comes with the electric windows, mirrors and sunroof. Also front fogs and leather steering wheel. The 16" hairpins were standard fitment. The half leather seats, skirts and 17" straights were optional so a + model is not guaranteed to have every feature you want.

Cheers so they all have the same front and rear but the skirts were optional.
