no letters on 'key', just the number 53

Cant get the nut off, its stuck on the car!

Get yourself down to Halfords and buy a universal locking nut remover. I had the same locking nuts and they are pants. Same thing happened to me.

The locking nut remover has a left handed thread and tightens on the nut allowing you to remove it.

I do sometimes wonder whats the point of locking wheel nuts - might deter oppotunists but otherwise they seem to offer very little advantage...

 

Can the universal removre be used more than once as i need to remove all 4 locking nuts?

Red-Rover, is the one you have the same number? the little nipples inside are opposite each other.

mine has the number 6 or 9 on it.

they are not exactly opposite each other. slighlty off centre.

I used an 18mm socket,just belt it on & it makes its own spline down the nut-the nut material is not all that hard so socket will b ok

It certainly looks the same, is there a number stamped onto the face thats sitting on the table?

Been to Halfords and got one of those universal locking wheel nut removers, it no fitty. the outside diameter is to big to fit in the wheel hole!! BUGGER!

its from a rover 25 mate sure it will fit your car ok

 

there is one rover dealer left i got a new lockin key from them cost me 13.75 check them out there based in northwich cheshire.

 

They all have diffrent number on them but they are the same one. I have one the same that I took when we shut up shop and it's got 2 stamped in them. Most dealers had trouble ordering them even with the key number same as lock keys also. But if you decide to buy a new set from Rover as they dont sell them seprate then try and ask for a set 63 they are the older ones and have 6 side on them so plenty for the locking tool to grip. They used to fit them to the 800/Mk2 200/MK1 400 and the Metro a much better quality before the dark days of BMW.

But if you need it off do what has been said above whack a 6 sided socket on and it will come off. Make sure it's a damaged socket and not a best one as it will only be fit for scrap afterwards.

 

Think i wait to see if i can get hold of a 'key'. Dont realy want to be smashing sockets up, i need to remove all 4 locking nuts too. i was fitting some new springs to my car, so i have the front nearside 30mm lower than the rest!

 

why spend £14 when you can just have mine??

Took mine down local scrappy, they charged me a tenner to take all 4 off,not much help if you have,nt got one though.

 

Much cheapness, last time i had this problem was on a Sierra Cosworth a few years ago, it got broke into and they nicked stereo and locking nut 'key' took it to a garage and they wanted £35 per corner to get them off! So i did it myself, took 2 days and a shed load of dill bits!

Hi guys, contiuing in the same vein I have sheered the two little lump bits off my locking wheel nut key after changing my front pads. I read throught the thread so Im gona try a local dealer tomorrow to get a replacement key (mine has 46 on the top) but if that doesnt work I did get a locking wheel nut remover socket but it was too big. If i need to by another set what size socket do I need ? Rover 200 1999 just incase that makes a difference.

Had the same problem myself a while back, if you have the 2 figure number on the key try an x-part dealer if there is one near you and they should be able to give you a new one.
