its a 2.5, it is just used in the ZS/ZT, may be used in the 45/75 too, not sure.
And SteveB with the help of R.S.M got it in his 200

 

As Roy says, the engine size is 2.5 litres, it comes in various states of tune, and hence power output.

The ZT190 has the most powerful output of about 190ps. I believe essentially all the engines are the same, apart from cam timing and fuel maps in the ecu.

Mine has been rolling roaded at 197BHP, but I am hoping for over 200 this weekend, now the revs have been increased to 7K.

The engine does fit in the 200, but only just, and you do have to do some fabrication of some parts.

For the conversion RSM is the best bet, but be warned it is not a cheap conversion.

It can be done and it has been done....

 

KV6 is also available as a 2.0l V6.

The early varients in the 800 are not as compact (Will not even fit a 75 engine bay) and suffered lots of problems with high miles and are best avoided.

I have read so much about the pro and cons about rechipping or rewrting the ECU. Does any one have specific experience on the success or availability of such chips to suit the KV6? In my case I have the MG ZT 180.

Later models came with the KV6 as I can still remember the adverts with lots of little Rover workers on the engine!

 

The KV6 was also launched in 2 litre capacity along with the Rover 75 in 1999.

Although the 2.0 KV6 is not listed in the latest R75 brochure, my local MGR dealer informs me that it is still available on special order.

However I can't understand why it remains popular because both the 2.5 KV6 and 1.8T are more powerful and offer better economy.

 

AFAIK the 800 was first available with a 2.5 Honda V6, then a 2.7 Honda V6, then last off had the very problematic first series 2.5 Rover KV6.

The KV6 was then virtually redesigned for the 75 as the original KV6 had major flaws in it's design as well as not fitting the 75 engine bay.

As DLN says the 2.0V6 overs no economy advantage over the 2.5V6 and is slower than the 1.8T.

lol.....fixing it no doubt! What a classic!

 

Late=plate 800 V6s make very cheap cars, because no-one's quite sure whether they will have the early KV6 with the liklihood of it having head problems, or the later "fixed" version.

 

I think the failed ones were 'rounded up' and fixed at Longbridge :spanner:

 

QED have taken the 2.5KV6 to 230bhp and 192 lb/ft, but there is a 2.0 out there giving 320bhp and 175lb/ft @10k rpm. It did cost $40,000 and runs on Methanol thugh.

I quite like the idea of a KV6, don't know what to put it in though.

 

The early KV6 fitted to 800s were essentially handbuilt and had a number of teething problems.

The best engine for the 800 was always the 2.7 Honda but it was the rest of the car that left a lot to be desired. There are some great ones about but there are more not so great ones as well.
