The usual big question of insurance. I want to lower my car but Churchill who currently insure me have said they will not insure a modified car for under 21s. I am only 18 and was wondering if anyone knows who provides competitively prices insurance for modified cars if under 21. I currently have 1 years no claims and pay ÂŁ900 and something which I do not believe will be beaten but am prepared to pay that bit more if the company will be happy with mods. Any suggestions?

how much are you planning on lowering it?
a small drop, i.e. 20-30mm?
i'd be tempted to just do it tbh, it makes the handling better, you're not making it faster or more dangerous and they'd only know if you had such a bad crash that the car was thoroughly inspected....
people will all say its morally wrong etc and you shouldn't do it but i don't see a problem

It's not just morally wrong, it's also igainst the law. The insurance company can/will refuse to pay out in the event of a serious incident and if there were also personal injuries involved it could get nasty. Hopefully that will never ever happen, but it could and that's why car insurance is compulsary in the UK.

Steven, your best bet is to wait until renewal time and then start getting quotes from insurers and include the susension mods. There are some good insurers left out there. Lots use Adrian Flux for modded cars, I've had a really good quote from Greenlight Insurance before too althugh I'm not sure if Greenlight have an age restriction.

Try Quinn Direct as they only want to know about mods that affect engine performance so even when you do declare the suspension mod to them to couldnt give a hoot as it does nothing to the engines performance. Good prices too as im 19 with no ncb and was 1300 for my second year fully comp with or without the mods i made (which includes lowering springs aswell)
