Installing a USB socket to power iPhone etc?

Thinking about putting a single usb socket in the car (ideally to the right of the instrument binaccle as that is where the iPhone is screen mounted.
Is it just a case of connecting up to the live on the cigarette lighter and running it across, or is it more complicated than that?

It's a case of that particularly... but I'd be careful on the amount of items you connect to the ciggie lighter. Do you use it for other items? As soon as you go over the 15A? fuse it has it'll fuse.

There were some 'live' connections from the fusebox you could use so it's permanently on and you could leave the car locked and the phone hidden and charging should you need to.

Hi mate... good to hear from you...

I dont use the cigarette lighter (not sure if it works to be honest) and was debtaing at some point installing the Start button mod. Not fussed about charging the phone whilst I am away, so not fussed about charging the phone whilst Im away. Only really want to charge the phone whilst driving as I use Sat Nav and Tunes a lot.
