How hard can it be to get the suspension pumped up?

My drivers side has been sitting a little to low ever since I got the car, so when it was in for its MOT I asked my local garage to pump it up. When he connected the pump to the suspension, the valve on his machine started to leak - the bit that connects to the suspension valve on the car.

Quite rightly he did not want to try any further incase fluid was lost from the suspension and it dropped even further.

Found another garage with a pump and left the car with them yesterday, got a phone call - they have the exact same problem as the first garage:(

So next week its booked into a 3rd garage - lets hope its 3rd time lucky.

If this does not work, it might just be easier to lower the passenger side to match! (only kidding but did think about it!)

I did wonder if that could be the problem, if you press the middle part, fluid comes out, release and it stops. The thead appears in good condition and the end is flat. I was there when the first garage connected up the pump, he got the connector on nice and tight but on looking at his valve after, the sealing ring inside did not look to clever - they had not used it for ages.

The second garage had lent their pump out and this was its first use since getting it back, they said that on inspecting the valve of their pump they could see where it was damaged.

Will post back as to what happens next week.

well i had it done about 3 weeks ago for 30 pounds but.. i think you may have a problem as its only one side of the suspension i.e the driver side

how it works is under the bonnet there are to connectors that are used to pump up the suspension on for the front and one for th back so if u have one side lower than the other may mean yours is leaking or your damper is buggered.

in which cause u need a new damper or worst case a hydro gas pod..

b and g do the dampers for 26 quid trophy ones get looking to see if you can see any leaks first then just ask at a garage for a pump up.

good luck

normal ride hieght 348

i think just do a quick search to find the exact hieghts

You are correct in that the 2 valves are under the bonnet but, one valve controls the drivers side, the other the passenger side, so each side works front to back.

I am hoping that all I need is some fluid putting back in, but I cannot rule out the possibility of a knackered hydragas unit. I will monitor it, if I ever get the pumping up done!

An update.

Got the drivers side suspension pumped up today by garage No 3. Car now sitting level and at the correct height.

The ride quality was fine before but now is a little better and previously the steering wheel was slightly off centre when driving straight ahead, its now perfect at the quarter to three position instead of the previous twenty to two (approx) position.
